They built their homes on farms that they leased from others in the community or bought outright. In 1864, when Chicago became an city, Crest Hill voted to become its own municipality. The original residents of Crest Hill were: John Bigham (1812-1892), James Wertheimer (1814-1900), Amos Snyders (baptized 1795-?), Solomon Hirsch (1800-1875), Charles Beardsley (1800-1925) and Isaac Niles (1799-1876). The first school in CrestHill was located on the current site of First Baptist Church which was built in 1867. A second school was built on land donated by Mrs. Hirsch and named after her husband, Revs Charles Beardsley and Isaac Nilesenberg. This school served the community until it closed in 1923 due to financial difficulties; however, a new building erected on this site continues to serve as the primary public school for CrestHill today. In 1925, Driggs brothers opened their grocery store at 210 Wabash Avenue which became one of the largest grocery stores west of the Mississippi River and remains open today as a familyowned business with over 350 employees across twelve locations across Chicagoland including two locations inside Willis Tower corporate headquarters! It wasn't until 1957 when J & P Zimmermann opened up their hardware store at 501 Wabash Avenue which would become one of Corsicana's most popular shopping destinations for both locals and visitors alike for its wide variety of products available at an affordable price! Crest Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. Crest Hill borders the city of Chicago to the south and west, and Mundelein Lake to the north. The first recorded settlement in Crest Hill was on a tract of land that was part of what is now the city of Chicago. A post office called Crest Hill was established in 1881, and remained in operation until 1959. In 1892, a group of investors organized what became known as The First National Bank of Crest Hill. The bank was built on Highland Avenue within present-day Crest Hill. It served as one of the most important institutions in town for many years. In 1909, two brothers named John and George Burt developed an oil well near what is now Monument Park in downtown Chicago; when production ceased due to World War I, they abandoned their well there and moved to Crest Hill to continue production under new management. Production resumed operations at the well after hostilities ended; however, it soon discontinued again because of low prices for petroleum products caused by World War II bombing raids over Chicago

It was founded in 1812 by Captain John Stephenson, a U.S. Army veteran and Pathfinder who had been stationed in Canada during the War of 1812. The village grew quickly because of its natural resources: timber, coal, and water supplies. In 1821, Crest Hill became a town and began to develop much of what is now Crest Hill Township.
