Country Club Hills, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,636 at the 2010 census. The ZIP code is 61401. Country Club Hills was first settled in 1847 by Scottish immigrants who named their ranch "The Oaks". The name change to Country Club Hills after the opening of a country club in nearby Lombardville. In 1912, the club moved from Lombardville to its present location on Milwaukee Avenue and Highland Boulevard. The original golf course was built on what is now Chicago Heights Golf Course which opened in 1911. Currently, there are six courses within Country Club Hills: Riverbend (opened in 1984), Olympia Fields (1999), Pines (2002), Brookside (2006), and Valhalla (2013). In 1938, Country Club Hills became an incorporated village when it merged with Lombardville. At the time of its incorporation it had a population of 10,000 residents and 300 businesses. It lost its status as an incorporated village when it merged with Lombardville again in 1951 but regained it due to a referendum held that year. The Village has annexed many small villages since then including Winnetka Heights (.5 miles south) and Oak Park (.8 miles north). These annexations have been approved by the Village Board on majority vote with only one dissenting vote pertained to Oak Park which annexation would have brought along much smaller community with no land use restrictions or services offered by either of those two villages other than hosting a single high school education option for students from both communities combined- this being done without any input from either party involved in the annexation process; however all three villages currently enjoy full level government funding and services as part of same municipality
