Country Club Hills is a small city in Kendall County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,583 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 by H.L. Hunt and his brothers as a country club for wealthy farmers and their families. The first building, a two-story wood frame cottage, was dedicated on October 12th of that year and seats only 100 members. In 1896, the original country club was reorganized into an agricultural society with 10 acres (40 hectares) of land south of the village to be used for future courses and clubhouse buildings. That same year saw the opening of one of America's longest golf courses when 17-hole Cottage Grove Golf Course opened near what is now Loop 1604 in Country Club Hills east of Chicago proper on Forest Preserve Road 24th Street between Cicero Avenue and Orchard Road. The land surrounding Country Club Hills has been developed into over 160 homes, businesses, schools and other uses since its establishment including: Countryside Shopping Center; First National Bank; Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company; Northwestern University's Kendall Campus; Ameritech Telecommunications Services Inc.; Ford Motor Company Europe Headquarters; Sears Roebuck & Co., Ltd.; Harry Heinemann Publishers Limited.; numerous embassies;; numerous member organizations such as Kiwanis International (USA), Little League (USA), Rotary Club (Worldwide), American Legion Post 4778 (IL), dog pounds etc...
