From 1892 to 1968, Country Club Hills, Illinois had one of the most vibrant andGun magazine history in the United States. The town was home to a large gun club that met monthly for several decades, and its members were responsible for manufacturing and distributing over 100 different types of firearms. This Gun magazine history is directly related to the town’s founding as a gun-owning community. Country Club Hills was named after two brothers who lived in nearby Decatur Township. Their father, James Hynes, decided in 1852 to move his family to this area west of Chicago due to concerns about polygamy being practiced by Mormons living on the east side ofChicago at the time. Hynes founded what would become Country Club Hills with his brother George on November 3, 1892. It wasn’t until 1912 that country club members agreed to start charging dues for membership which helped support the club through its many years of growth. In 1928, Country Club Hills became a charter member of The National Rifle Association (NRA). In 1948, when President Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 9066 restricting transportation of firearms within America, Country Club Hills did not hesitate in supporting their NRA brethren by opening their own Gun shop called The Armory located on West Eisenhower Avenue across from their clubhouse. At this point in time it was one of only two Gun stores open during prohibition period in America! The Gun store continued operation until 1988 when it closed its doors due to heavy competition from larger entities such as Walmart and Kmart who began selling guns less than 24 hours after it opened! Today it still remains an iconic landmark in town and is known for its unique collection of vintage handguns including revolvers made prior to 1934!
