As a result of this law, many pistols and shotguns became unavailable to Americans because they were not legal to import into the United States

The original two buildings on Main Street were built about 1870 as a private golf clubhouse and library. They are now used as community center and Lions Club meeting rooms. The post office was established in 1887, and the first store opened in 1912. In 1936, the town voted to become an incorporated municipality under the name Country Club Hills. Today, Country Club Hills has a wide variety of businesses including real estate agents, carpenters, printers/printing companies, restaurants (including one owned by Oprah Winfrey), health clubs with swimming pools and spas, art galleries and several dozen homes owned by wealthyidents who have given money to charity or served on local boards or committees. There are also several thousand visitors each year to various events held at the Community Pool (the only municipally owned pool in Cook County) or at various other local venues like historical sites or nature trails.

Country Club Hills is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1887 by J.P. Morgan and other investors as a horse-riding society for middle-class Americans living in rural areas of central Illinois. By 1922, Country Club Hills had become one of the most exclusive country clubs in the United States because it offered its members more than just horseback riding; they also received access to food and beverage services, tennis courts, swimming pools, and Sunday morning services from local churches. In 1951, President Harry S Truman attended a country club meeting there to discuss plans for cross-country highway construction in the area. Afterward, he announced his support for the project and urged Congress to provide enough money to build the road. In 1957, after years of planning and fundraising by locals and federal officials alike, Country Club Hills became one of four towns—along with Arlington Heights (northwestChicago), South Holland (southwest Chicago), and Winnetka (northwestCook County)—to form the newly created city of Springfield under then Mayor John Fenton III.
