Country Club Hills began to grow rapidly after it opened its doors to residents in 1914. By 1925, it had become one of the most affluent communities in Cook County and boasted over 200 homes and businesses with a population of 3,000 people. The postwar boom ended when World War II began and economic conditions changed abruptly after 1945-the war's biggest impact on rural America-with no new opportunities for industry or jobs opening up during peacetime. As manufacturing left behind towns such as Dayton and Wheeling in West Virginia and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania; country club members turned their focus towards activities other than farming or ranching: tennis, golfing (particularly links courses), horseback riding and swimming became popular pastimes among these longtime enthusiasts of country living within commuting distance of Chicago proper. In 1957 Country Club Hills merged with neighboring Highland Park to form what would be known as Highland Park-Country Club Hills Community Association (HICA). In 1978 HICA passed control of its infrastructure - including both schools and fire departments - to the newly created City Council which then used them for research purposes by creating Country Club Hills University which offered undergraduate degrees in business administration, marketing/public relations, law enforcement/firefighting/police science & criminal justice
