Collinsville, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Collinsville community was laid out by John Collins and his wife Martha in 1836 following his purchase of a tract of land east of present-day Collinsville from the Potawatomi Indians. The first permanent settler in what would become Collinsville was David Wigglesworth who arrived in 1841. He built a log cabin on the site that he named "Wigglesworth's Grove". Wigglesworth also raised corn, hay and pigs on his farm until 1846 when he sold all his land to George Saunders for $1,000. In 1847, George Saunders organized the first township in Cook County under their new name - Collinsville Township. On January 1, 1850 saw another important event when Judge Richardson certified as a public school district within this new township two schools - one for boys and one for girls - which would serve as models for similar districts throughout Cook County. In 1861, after years of annexation by other townships in Cook County (Algonquin Heights being added to Chicago on November 5th), Collinsville became its own municipality with a population of 792 residents Today there are over 25 businesses operating inCollinsville including three Main Street convenience stores: Supermarket Assortment Inc., QFC Express & Grocery Co., and Family Fun Mart; four gas stations - GASCO pump station #2 (opened 2002), CHIWAO station #1 (opened 2009), BENZIN pump station #3 (opened 2013) and JOE'S TOMATO COOP Station #2/3/4; two post offices - POST OFFICE 2 NOON SHARPESTOWN (opened 2008) and POST OFFICE 3 MIDNIGHT HILLS; three churches including Notre Dame Cathedral Church Of God With Christ And Our Lady Of The Lake Catholic School District Chapel Of Christ Episcopal Church And Holy Name Romanian Orthodox church;; one daycare center - Daycare Brookside Center; four banks - First National Bank Of Collinsville (2002), Farmers Trust Bank (2004), Northwestern State Bank And Trust Company(2009)and Wells Fargo bank(2013). Additionally there are several restaurants including Papa John's Pizza (), Starbucks Coffee (), Subway (), Lipton Tea Room ()and Dutch Bros ().
