The school district continued to operate until it merged with other school districts in 1959. The original Grange Hall still stands today and is used as a community center and public library. The name "Collinsville" comes from John Collins who settled there around 1790s when he bought land near what is now Elm Street and State Road 611. At that time, this area was known as Middlebury Township because two roads led into it: North Main Street (now Emerson Avenue) ran through Middlebury village while South Main Street ran through Colesburg village (now Addison). JohnCollins built his home on what later became Elm Street near where his house still stands today; at that time Elm street was just a dirt road connecting rural areas to larger townships such as Middlebury Village and Colesburg Village across the river in or around Chicago proper - today's city limits!

The first settler in Collinsville was John Collins who arrived with his family in 1836. The name "Collinsville" was derived from the Irish word "Coillín" meaning a place where cows were milked. The village of Collinsville was organized on February 16, 1853, by act of the legislature. At that time it consisted of just three blocks of land north of present-day Main Street. The community had no school, but residents nearby built one for themselves and opened it on April 1st,1857. In 1860, when Illinois became a state, Collinsville voted to join it and soon after construction began on what would become State Capitol Building (now Missouri Avenue). That building served as the state capital until 1877 when Springfield became the new state capital and Collinsville ceased to exist as an official municipality. Today there is only a small commercial strip surrounding downtown Collinsville which still contains some interesting architecture from its early years including: The Old Post Office (1909), woolen mill (1893), Masonic Temple (1901) and several churches including First Baptist Church which dates back to 1868.
The town of Collinsville was founded in 1831 by John and Anna Collins. The town was named after General James K. Polk, who had died in the War of 1812. The first post office was established in Collinsville in 1834, and the first store was built in 1840. In 1865, the town became a village, and it incorporated as a city on November 3, 1902. On January 1, 2006, Collinsville became a county-level jurisdiction within Cook County.
