The town was incorporated in 1829 and became known as "Collinsville" because of John Hogg's donation of land to the townspeople for an courthouse and school district. In 1836, General George Armstrong Napoleon recommended that Collinsville be added to the Illinois Central Railroad network because it had potential for growth due to its fertile agricultural land and cheap labor resources available thereabouts. After years of consideration by railroad officials, Collinsville was officially annexed into Chicago on February 17, 1854. At that time, it had a population of only 1 hundred people! A few years later, in 1861-1862, Union troops burned down many homes in this small community during what's called "the burn" period following the American Civil War. However much damage was done including significant loss of life so nothing remains of those fires today other than memories and photos from those days! One thing that does remain is some impressive architecture from that time including two monumental stone buildings still standing downtown – one dedicated to Stonington Presbyterian Church (now Christ Episcopal Cathedral), which served as both local parish church and school until 1965 when it was remodeled into apartments; and another larger structure known locally as “The State House” originally built between 1861-1863 by contractor James Cushing for $2 million dollars with plans calls for setting up an academy within its walls similar to one now being operated by DePaul University? Collinsville is a town in Pulaski County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The closure of that plant led to an economic decline for the town, which has seen only modest growth since then despite several new businesses opening up aroundCollinsville over the past decade or so inclusive ofuphemisms such as "the revitalization area."
