George Washington Carver was an American farmer and educator who spent his early years in Cicero, Illinois. He attended the local high school and then went on to college at Tuskegee Institute before becoming a teacher. In 1881, he moved to Cicero, where he became the first black teacher in the town. He remains one of the most well-known educators in Cicero today. Carver also helped start the city's first cotton textile mill. One of Carver's most famous projects was developing a program that aimed to promote literacy among African Americans. The project was called "Carver's Corners" and it focused on teaching children about different aspects of life and history. The program eventually led to more than 2,000 African American children being taught about traditional values and culture.

For many years Cicero led a life of retirement at his estate Tusculum outside Rome until he was invited by Augustus to serve as his tutor for three years starting from 17 AD. During this time, he developed close relationships with both Augustus and Caligula, eventually becoming one of their most trusted advisors. When Caligula came to power in 41 AD, Cicero refused to become involved in any political intrigues or support him against his brother Claudius II; instead he retired back at Tusculum where he died on October 14th because of old age on November 15th due to natural causes without having lived long enough for another term as augustus' advisor.
