This ranch extended from present-day Union Avenue south to State Road 527 east and included parts of what are now Park Forest and Hoffman Estates neighborhoods. Ida Toliver moved to Cicero in 1865 with her family after being displaced by the cotton strike in Mobile, Alabama. She started a grocery store on Washington Boulevard near modern day Worth Street which she operated until her death in 1922. After Ida Toliver's death her husband Harry Fenton took over operation until he sold it to Roy Rogers Jr., Sr.'s father Roy Rogers Enterprises Inc., which operated it until 1984 when it was acquired by Sears Holdings Corporation . The store front still shows traces of its original red brick facade with white marble trim.. According to the National Register Of Historic Places listing for First National Bank Building #4IC 825 Main St—Cicero, "First National Bank" built this building between 1889–1893; also listed as #4IC 825 Main St.—CicERO is significant because it is one of three buildings remaining from the original bank located at 6 Second Street (now Elmhurst Place Mall). It has been reported that this building may be worth up to $10 million according to experts." It wasn't long before there were businesses established here such as blacksmith shops, groceries etcetera which attracted more people and businesses began developing around them including Alexander Graham Bell’s laboratories there becoming home to some of Illinois' top scientists during this time period including Willis Carrier and Augustus Saint Gaudens among others along with many other industries over time like manufacturing plants moving out into Central Illinois due economic opportunities brought about by railroads coming throughDeKalb County
