In 1911, Colt introduced its first self-contained handgun magazine called Colt Anschutz magazines which held 15 rounds per magazine (later increased to 30 rounds). This innovation made it possible for law enforcement officers to carry handguns without having to remove them from their holsters every time they wanted to reload
