Gun magazines in Chicago, Illinois go back to the 1800s. There were at least two gun magazines in Chicago before 1871 when the first city ordinance regulating firearms was passed. The ordinance allowed citizens to possess up to three pistols and six rounds of ammunition per month. The first magazine located in Chicago was called the "Baker Rifle Mag" which opened on December 1, 1871. It was located at 116th and Western Avenue. The second magazine, which opened on March 15, 1872, was called the "National Rifle Mag". It was located at 17th and State Streets. In 1892 a new ordinance went into effect that made it illegal for anyone under 21 years of age to own a gun. This law also banned importation of handguns from any foreign country without prior written consent from the Mayor and City Council. In 1903 a new ordinance went into effect that made it legal for civilians to possess handguns with no restrictions placed on their use beyond those placed on regular citizens. This law also allowed handgun manufacturers to sell their products directly to consumers without going through licensed dealers or distributors. The following year saw the opening of anothergun magazine in Chicago- the "American Pistol Magazine". It was located at 5th and Dearborn Streets
