Chicago Ridge, Illinois was founded in 1892 when a group of settlers, led by Captain George Fenton, moved from Ohio. The town was named after Chicago Ridge, a hill in the city that served as a shooting range and hunting ground for early settlers. Chicago Ridge continued to grow and develop until it became an incorporated town in 1959. Today, Chicago Ridge is home to over 20 businesses and 2,000 residents who live within walking distance of the local shopping district. One of the earliest target holders in Chicago Ridge was Capt. George Fenton's Shooters Club which met at his home on North Elm Street. This club offered lessons and targets to anyone who wanted to learn how to shoot. In 1908 Capt. Fenton donated land adjacent to his home on West Irving Avenue for a rifle range that would become one of the most popular shooting ranges in the area. The first targets were placed on this range on April 25th, 1908. The original goal of Chicago Ridge Rifle Ranges was not only To provide a safe place for shooters to practice their skills but also To help promote Hunting and Fishing during those early years when these activities were still very much in its infancy throughout much of America! In 1916 Captured Major General John J Pershing approved plans for two rifle ranges - one east side of Dearborn Street near Damen Avenue and another west side across from State Park off Roosevelt Road just north of I-94 (now US-36). On November 6th 1916 City Council voted unanimously to incorporate as an unincorporated community with its own governing board called "The Rifle Range Committee". At this point there were only 10 residents living within our boundaries! 4 months later (on December 1st) we had our first public meeting where all members present graciously listened as Mayor Pugh read prepared remarks about what we had accomplished thus far including acquiring new property etc... It was then that everyone got excited knowing they could finally start making some real money playing golf or sitting around waiting tables... (laughs) Anyway back then such things as cars or internet didn't exist so there was no way you could actually make any money doing anything other than being a friendly member/associateofThe Rifle Range Committee! We even sold T-shirts at meetings! Eventually The Rifle Range Committee grew too large so Captured Major General John J Pershing approved plans for yet another rifle range - this time located just outside the limits established by City Council - across from South Side High School off 122nd Street between Wabash Avenue & Pulaski Boulevard (now Cicero Avenue). And finally on October 28th 1920 City Council voted unanimously again TO INCORPORATE AS AN UNINCORPORATED COMMUNITY WITH ITS OWN GOVERNING BOARD CALLED THE RIFLES RANGE COMMITTEE!! This time THERE WERE OVER 20Residents Living Within Our Bounds!!! AGAIN!!!!!!!!! ON OCTOBER 28TH 1920 CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO INCREASE OUR NUMBER FROM 20 TO 30 INTO AN OFFICIAL COMMUNITY OF 30 INTRODUCING A NEW ERA FOR CHICAGO RIFLES!!!(laughs) Finally!!! We had made it!!!!!!!!

Chicago Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the border of Chicago and Rockford. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The ridges that make up the town are named for Major General Arthur A. Dixon, who led Union forces during the American Civil War. Dixon's Ridge is located near downtown Chicago and he is buried there in a cemetery near where his home once stood. Other ridges include Mount Greenwood Cemetery, which overlooks Willis Park; and Mount Prospect Cemetery, which contains graves of notable figures such as Abraham Lincoln and Daniel Webster. In 1871, when railroads were built through Cook County, Dixon's Ridge became one of many towns along their tracks. In 1903 it incorporated as a village under the name of Chicago Ridge Village Incorporation No 2255-A (later changed to Chicago Ridge Township Incorporation). The first mayor was John Hickey Sr.. In 1916 Detroit architect George Pullen designed what is now known as "the houses on Milwaukee" - six bungalows constructed on an acre lot at Milwaukee Avenue and North Hoyt Street in what would become the new village center - with Federal style architecture that drew fire from some residents who saw it as too modernistic for their community steeped in traditional farm life. After World War II suburbanization increased demand for housing in central city areas like Chicago so much so that Dixon's Ridge had difficulty meeting those demands; by 1960 its population only numbered 300 people living in 45 buildings scattered over an area that extended almost to Calumet Avenue east of State Street NW., less than one-third of its original size However despite these difficulties Dixon's Ridge continued to thrive thanks to its strong economy and closeknit community spirit which has been exhibited through events such as bingo games night baseball games Fourth Of July fireworks shows dances etc.; most notably its annual farmers' market held September 11th thru 15th each year since 1974

In recent years however, there has been an increase in housing development within the community which has caused some decline in economic activity; however, members of the local community continue to serve as volunteers for various causes such as youth programming and environmental protection initiatives.
