Chicago Ridge is a census-designated place in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 1,683 at the 2010 census.
Chicago Ridge is located in the eastern portion of Cook County, Illinois. The ridge forms a natural divide between the city of Chicago and the villages of Mount Greenwood to the west and Prospect Heights to the east. The ridge also has a number of quarries that provide materials for construction in downtown Chicago. The ridge was first populated by Native Americans, who hunted game on both sides of the ridge. In 1836, John Hickey founded Chicago Ridge Company, which developed land along Chicago Ridge. The company became part of the Armour Rubber Company in 1884. The company's holdings included much of what is now Downtown Chicago. In 1919, Armour merged with General Motors; GM increased its holdings on Chicago Ridge through mergers and acquisitions until it was acquired by William Wirt in 1954. The area around Chicago Ridge has been used for agriculture since pre-Columbian times. Fields dating back to about 1000 BCE have been found at Philadelphia Park Reservoir; these fields were likely used for maize and beans (cassava) cultivations as well as other crops such as squash, tomatoes, and potatoes. Michigan State University archaeologists excavated a prehistoric village located about two miles southwest of present day Prospect Heights on July 10th-12th, 1984 during an excavation project known as "the Milwaukee Mound Project." During this project they discovered evidence that early humans hunted animals including deer and elk on both sides of the ridgeline which provided them with food supply while also providing some protection from animal attacks or theft by their enemy tribes living further downriver near modern day Milwaukee Avenue/Wabash Avenue junction). The first Europeans to visit what is now Downtown Chicago were French traders known as La Salle and his group who landed at Lake Michigan in 1688 looking for new routes across America. They were not successful in finding any interesting new routes so they returned home but set up shop at Fort Dearborn where they built trading posts with locals including Potawatomi Chief O’Hara who offered them land within his community if they would help trade goods back and forth between his people’s reserves eastward from Superior River located near Racine (now Milwaukee). La Salle’s expedition met stiff resistance from Native Americans led by Chief Osage when he attempts to trade goods back upstream with Potawatomi forces during late winter 1689-1690 at what is now Fox Point Ammunition Plant just south off I-94 northbound sideof road exit 221 (west sideof exit 221 still exists today). La Salle was killed when he encounters chief Osage’s forces while trying to return downstream after trading goods upstream

Since Chicago Ridge separates Cook County into two unequal parts, it has been used as a tool to divide residents along racial lines. In recent years, tension between black and white residents has boiled over on several occasions due to disagreements over housing, education, jobs, and other issues.
Chicago Ridge is an affluent neighborhood in the city of Chicago, Illinois. It is bordered by Foster Avenue to the south, Irving Park Road to the east, and Pulaski Drive to the north. The name comes from a ridge on which two large homes were built in 1892.
