Other early settlers were John Prentice and his brother-in-law Samuel Wirtz. The first post office was established in 1839, and Chicago Ridge became a village in 1847. The name was changed from Chicago Ridge to its current form on July 1, 1907 after being selected as one of ten incorporated villages in Illinois under Act No. 534 of 1907 (the "Village Name Law"). According to the 2010 census, 3,521 people live in Chicago Ridge: 2,871 households; 1,979 families; and 927 non-families residing within city limits; while 473 households are located within village limits and 258 are outside of it altogether
