Chicago Ridge is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first binoculars were invented by two German soldiers during World War I. In 1924, John Pierpont put together a kit to make his own binoculars from old army surplus equipment. His son-in-law helped him start the company that became America's leading manufacturer of binoculars and telescope products since 1934. Binocular production started on a small scale in Kane County until about 1930 when it exploded due to increased demand for binoculars both for personal use and scientific observation. By 1938 there were more than 2 million pairs of American made binoculars in use around the world! It wasn't until 1945 that Cooke/Fenton began producing high quality riflescopes with optics built into them which led to their success in making precision hunting tools for law enforcement and military units all over the world!
