Chicago Ridge is a small town in Kane County, Illinois. It is located near the village of Westmont and has a population of about 1,500. The first ammunition company in Chicago Ridge was organized on December 7, 1871 by Elisha Barnes and H.A. Smith. The company was called the "Blackhawk Armory." The Blackhawk Armory was destroyed by fire on October 15, 1872. The next year, the Armoury Society of Chicago was founded to continue the manufacture of ammunition in Chicago Ridge. On November 25, 1875, Mr. George Fenton became president of the Armoury Society of Chicago and commenced to produce rifle rounds for sale at the armory door by subscription only to members of that society; this continued until 1895 when it became open to all citizens without subscriptions or pay as an exhibition ground for sporting purposes only-an arrangement which continued until 1898 when it closed down because too much powder had been used up in manufacturing arms since its organization). In 1895 Mr. Fenton built a new factory at 16th and State Streets in behalf of his society which he called "the Armoury Company." This new factory produced rifle rounds under license from various American Manufacturers including Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Colt's revolver factory (which later became Browning & Co.). In 1903 Mr. Fenton sold his interest in the Armoury Company to A&P Ammunition Corporation who made it their main product line; however they still imported some products from other manufacturers into their plant for marketing purpose only In 1916 A&P Ammunition Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company forming Remington Rand Corporation In 1925 Remington Rand Corporation merged with Izhmash AG forming Izhmayl SSPE Ltd It is interesting to note that although ammo production decreased significantly during World War II due to restrictions placed on Japanese munitions exports- nevertheless RemingtonRand corporation managed to keep up production even though their main product line shifted from arms magazine bullets/shells/ammunition concentrate (Rifle rounds) towards target shooting supplies such as shotguns, shotguns etc.; however handguns ceased being produced after 1945 .
