The Chatham Rifle and Pistol Club has been Targets shooting for over 100 years and has become a favorite spot in Chatham for shooters of all levels. The site of the club’s first target shoot was an old Smith & Wesson factory on the edge of town. today, the factory complex houses two ranges, a skeet range and a rifle range. There are several hundred target spectators who come to watch the action every day from 9am to 3pm. The rifle range has been used by both amateur and professional shooters, as well as school groups and military units throughout history. Today, there are three types of targets available: bulls-eye, centerfire (5 shot) rounds, and armor piercing rounds (H&K M4/M16). All three ranges have their own lanes for walking or running around the targets; there is also a children’s area with games for kids Ages 4-12 years old. In addition to its own trapdoor that can be opened from below to let people jump onto the targets from high up, Chatham Rifle & Pistol Club also offers its members an additional 12-meters uphill target stand that visitors can use if they have difficulty reaching down low enough to hit their target at ground level. This stand has proved especially useful during winter months when it can be difficult or impossible to get down low enough to set up your equipment outside without getting wet!

Chatham is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Chatham Township was John Stephenson in 1833. The town was formally organized on December 15, 1835 by Act of the General Assembly of the United States under the name of "Erie". It took its present name from Captain Nathaniel Chatham who defended Fort Dearborn against an attack by Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War. Chatham's growth began slowly due to its location at the mouth of a small stream and lack of transportation options. However, with new railroads being built through DuPage County and the opening of mills in nearby Aurora, Chatham exploded into activity in the late 1800s becoming one of Illinois' leading communities for commercial agriculture and manufacturing. In 1916, Chatham became part of Cook County when it was created from parts of Kane and DuPage counties. At that time, Cook County had only a few villages and townships while Du Page County included all but two endpoints on Lake Michigan. In 1964, however, Cook County merged with La Grange to form Chicago which eliminated much Chatham's commercial acreage; however, some businesses have since reopened including PNC Bank which operates a full-service bank within walking distance of both downtown Chicagos main shopping districts and one close to McCormick Place Stadium where professional sports events are held annually such as The Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament or The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship game (the latter event is now known as The Super Bowl).

Chatham was founded in 1837 by Captain John Chatham and his family. The area now includes the city of Peoria, Illinois, and parts of the counties of Cook, Kane, and McHenry. The Chatham community made its first appearance on a map in 1836 when Captain John Chatham surveyed the land that would become Peoria. At that time, Peoria was part of Kankakee County. Captain John's father had also surveyized land in what is now Muscatine County. As early as 1814, Captain John Chatham had been exploring the area which would eventually become Peoria. He set out from his home in Canada with four men to explore this new land he had discovered. Captain John'sson soon after secured a grant from the Illinois General Assembly to purchase 640 acres of land east of present day I-90 at what is now called State Street in downtown Peoria for $5 per acre (this was before statehood). This purchase marked the beginning of what would be one of America's most successful agriculture endeavors – developing an orchard and wheat field that produced over 1 million bushels of wheat per year by 1840! The town site chosen for Chatham was on high ground overlooking the then newly formed Chicago River valley. Because it was so convenient to transport goods and people between Chicago and other areas in central Illinois, early settlers built their homes near present day Union Station on Michigan Avenue just south of State Street. In 1841, when Sangamon County became a part of Illinois, much interest developed within the fledgling county seat at Chatham because it lay adjacent to Sangamon County lines! In 1848 & 1850 voters approved boundary changes which resulted in additions to both Sangamon and Cook Counties including portions Of current-dayPeoria Township! From this time forward, many businesses located along State St., northwest cornerstones for much later growth such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Jiffy Lube Logistics Corporation - today’s Kmart - opened operations hereabouts! These days many look back upon these early days with nostalgia; especially given our recent tornado outbreak events that have taken place within city limits recently!
The Chatham community began to form in the early 1800s, when a group of farmers purchased land in what is now Chatham. By 1810, the community had a tavern, two stores, and a post office. The townspeople built a new courthouse in 1836 and started a school district. In 1865, the town became the county seat of Chatham County.
