In 1881, Chatham, Illinois was the site of one of the most significant gun magazines in American history. The Magazine Street Gunshop had been established in 1875 by George H. Robertson, a gunsmith and entrepreneur who also ran a tavern on Magazine Street. By 1881, the shop had become one of the largest and most influential firearms stores in America. Robertson's store specialised in selling handguns, shotguns and rifles to civilians as well as active militia members and police officers. His shop was open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm and he offered free consultation for customers who wished to purchase any type of firearm. He also sold ammunition and other related items. The genesis of what would become magazine street is documented by historian James Wirtz in his book "Gun Magazines of America" (1941). Wirtz wrote that at first, Robertson only sold handguns to civilian customers but he quickly became interested in selling rifles to military personnel as well. In 1886, Robertson opened a second store on Market Street called The Arsenal which specialized exclusively in rifle sales. This new store soon became one of the largest firearms retailers in America with an inventory that included both pistols and rifles from all over Europe including Russia, Austria-Hungary, Italy and Spain. By 1890, Robertsons Store had reached its peak business conditions with around 350 employees working at two locations across Chatham Avenue between Second/Market Streets and Third/Jefferson Streets – making it one of the largest businesses ever operated by an individual within Chicago’s city limits." At this point however, things began to change for Robertsons Store Ltd., as competition began moving into the market from larger retailers such as Goudey & Company Incorporated (later Goudey Firearms) which had opened up several years earlier on Dearborn Street near State/Zig Ziglar Boulevard. Goudey & Company were successful because they marketed their products directly to consumers rather than through retail partners like Robertson did; this allowed them greater control over pricing, product selection and advertising rates which helped them achieve large profits during their time period. However, when rifle sales began booming due largely to World War I (1894-1918), Goudey & Company were unable or unwilling to keep up with demand - leading them eventually into bankruptcy early in 1925." A similar fate befell magazine street shortly thereafter when larger manufacturers such as Colt Firearms Corporation entered into arms production within United States during World War II (1939-1945). At this point magazine street essentially ceased operations due lack of interest from either hobbyists or commercial shooters alike – though some remnants continued operating until around 1980.) In 1981 however", after more than 40 years without interruption", magazine street reopened its doors under new ownership with current management - better prepared now than ever before for another influx of shoppers looking for firearm supplies during peacetime."

The name comes from Captain Richard Chatham and his men who fought for independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution. Colonel John Sutter also settled in Chatham after fleeing California during the Gold Rush. Chatham was originally named "West Point" because of its location on the west bank of the Chicago River. The village was laid out by commissioners appointed by Congress to lay out DuPage County. The first post office in Chatham was established in 1815, and it served as the main center for local trade until about 1820 when a new county courthouse was built and opened. In 1827, George Washington Carver moved to Chatham and started a family farm that remains one of the largest agricultural operations inDuPage County today. In 1868, Missouri Pacific Railroad passed through central Chatham and began construction of their line eastward; this led to increased commerce and development around town which helped spur growth over time. Today, there are several shopping malls located within walking distance of townspeople including Sears Tower, an older mall which closed down in 2003 but reopened as Sears Canada; MediaPark Place; One Stop Shoppingcenter - an older mall which closed down in 2003 but reopened as a mixed-use development called "One Stop" near Lake Michigan Avenue; two new shopping malls (the larger Kmart store being developed on former GM's old site across from IMAX Theatre Northwestern Illinois University campus - now known as Midwest Center) : One Stop Corporate Center (now known as Marquette Park), with anchor stores Macy's, Sears & Roebuck; and JCPenney with anchor stores JBL Audio & theater chains AMC Theatres., Regal Cinemas., Dillard’s Department Stores.; several restaurants such as Chili’s Grill & Bar, Suburban Diner & Grille etc.; two banks: First National Bank (closed 1989) on Northwest Side; PeoplesBank on Northwest Side along Interstate 90th Street northwest of downtown; one large hotel complex including Holiday Inn Express Hotel Intercontinental Airport Authority Sheraton Suites just outside town limits north of I-90th Street ; numerous small businesses such as farmers markets、Cafeteria chain Wendy's、Pizza Hut、Restaurant Depot etc.; many private homes ; approximately 350 acres or forested land containing more than 100 cherry trees , apple orchards etc.; six churches: Episcopal Cathedral Parish Church – founded 1865 by Reverend James Auldridge (a missionary); Evangelical Lutheran Church - erected 1840 by Rev John Hogue (founder pastor); Catholic Apostolic Parish Church - erected 1861 by Fathers Pius IX and Bartholomew Kolbe (second pastor). A variety of events are held throughout year including Harvest Festival Third Saturday October 2nd followed by fire sale/sale-by-the-lot 3rd Saturday November 8th preceded by Parade day November 15th . There is also annual Apple Blossom Festival held late April before harvest

Chatham is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Chatham was platted in 1859 and named for Commodore John Chatham, Jr., who commanded American forces in the War of 1812. The first post office in Chatham was established on December 3, 1860, and closed on November 30, 1861. In 1870, Chatham granted land to the Chicago-based Rock Island Railroad. The railroad built a line through Chatham and other townships to connect with the Chicago main line at North Curve near present-day Union Station. This opened up new opportunities for agriculture and industry in the community. Over time, however, crime increased in Chatham and other communities along the railroads; this led to a decline in business activity during the late 19th century. In 1935, efforts were made by local officials to revitalize the economy by implementing economic development programs that included attracting businesses to townspeople through marketing campaigns and promotional events such as an open house sponsored by Sears Roebuck & Co.. However these initiatives did not result in increased business activity or sustainable growth; instead they resulted in more property values being raised rather than lowered as businesses moved out of town. In recent years there has been renewed interest within the community towards redeveloping properties into mixed use areas with commercial space as well as residential units; however progress has been slow due to lack of financial resources and support from government entities involved withChatham's redevelopment efforts.
