During World War I (1914-1918), many soldiers from Chatham died at war with Europe or were injured in action while serving here including Sergeant John Ransom who received the Medal of Honor for his actions on July 20th 1918 near Belleau Wood."

Today's economy relies heavily upon manufacturing: most notably aerospace engineering firms based out of Round Rock TX are responsible for many jobs within town limits; additionally there are few full-time jobs available outsideof town due to relative isolationism among locals looking to stay connected with larger metropolitan areas There is currently no high school within walking distance of any resident so students must either drive or take public transportation to get there; however there are plans underway for a new high school opening later this year that will make use of technology such as online classes so students can be close by without having to leave their home
