Channahon is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Channahon was founded in 1846 by Chloe and Amos Channahon. The Channahons were originally from Kentucky and immigrated to Illinois in 1847. The town was named after their daughter Hatchie (Haley) Channahon. In 1875, the townsite of Linden became a part of Channahon and it remained so until 1959 when it detached from the village limits. The first post office in Channahon opened on October 7, 1847. It was renamed Hatchieville on November 15th of that year due to the efforts of local farmers who had petitioned for the name change. The first store opened in 1850 with Isaac Romney as manager and later changed hands several times before becoming known as Piggly Wiggly Store No 1 which continued to operate until 1903 when it closed because of prohibitionism In 1865, Hennepin County was created from parts of Cook and DuPage counties and Channahon became one of its seven villages within that new county In 1886, local farmer George Earnest began growing corn on his farm north-west of town which soon yielded enough crops to support a store In 1909, the first high school building was built but no classes were ever held there because public schools did not open until after World War I . In 1916-1917 an unsuccessful effort was made by then mayor John Neely to get money for a new gymnasium/ auditorium but this never came through . In 1920-1921 an attempt was made by then Mayor James McCormick (one time incumbent) to use city funds towards buying land along Harrison Street for a new high school with no success . After years of being without educational opportunities or services due primarily to lack of funds, finally beginning in 1949 when statehood brought about much needed resources available locally such as dollars specifically earmarked for education purposes ,the first grade at Hatchie High School graduated its students on July 4th 1951 making it one hundred years old today!

By 1840, the population of Channahon numbered over 100 people. During this time, the community developed an industrial base that included a millinery shop and five families of farmers who raised crops on their properties. Channahon experienced rapid growth duringthe late 19th century as a result of its location on routes important to transportation and trade connections within Illinois and Indiana. This prosperity led to rising prices for goods produced in Channahon’s factories; however, there also was significant social progress made throughout this period which contributed to growth around town: educational opportunities began appearing in local schools; men started marrying women at an earlier age; businesses began prospering due to increased demand from customers; new housing developments sprang up along major roads leading into town; etcetera
