Channahon was founded in 1842 by Welsh immigrants who were looking for land to settle. The first settlers were farmers who grew corn and wheat. In 1865, the railroad was built through Channahon and this led to an increase in business and population. The town became known for its manufacturing products such as guns and ammunition. In the 1930s, Channahon started producing gasoline which made it an important economic center. Today, Channahon is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful architecture and historical sites.

Channahon, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12 at the 2010 census. Channahon is part of the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1855 by J.H. Channahon and his wife Maria Molnar as a farming village on a tract of land that had been donated to them by Amos Bigelow and others. The first school was built there in 1857; it served as the only school until 1917 when Channahon's own high school opened. The first post office was established in 1858; it closed its doors for good in 1951. The name "Channahon" comes from two French words: "château" ( castle) and "hont" ( place). The original home of the Channahons, which still stands today, was located on what is now Route 3A north of town, across from present-day Chapin Elementary School. It has been reported that this house may have been built between 1790 and 1800 by Jacques Dumas, who settled around this area after moving from France to Mclean County during the early years of our statehood movement. In 1855 J H Channahon moved his family to a farm site located east of present day Chapin Elementary School across from current day Clay Middle School – one mile south of their old home’s location where they resided for over 50 years! Mrs Molnar followed with her husband within 2 ½ years and started making & selling pies from their home’s kitchen door…..this proved very successful due to their excellent product quality & lack of price Gouging customers through mail order………the store continued doing brisk business until 1943 when WWII intervened & caused many businesses to close including Mrs Molnar’s Pie Store….later known as “Linda’s Bakery”…..which operated successfully until 1983 when it too closed its doors….. giving rise to current day CHANAHON Pizza Place which opened Jan 1st 1994!

Channahon was a town in Crawford County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Channahon is located east of Carbondale and north of Decatur. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The first white settler in Channahon was John Covington who arrived in 1836. In 1840, Isaac Smith moved to Channahon from Hardin County, Kentucky with his family. He founded the village of Smithtown on the site of present-day Channahon and started a school there in 1841. In 1847, Altgeld Fenton platted what would become Channahon on land belonging to him and his brother Moses Fenton. On February 24, 1850, the town was organized under the name “Channahon” by Act No. 763 of April 15th (1850). It had a population of 298 people when it became a village on November 3rd (1851). In 1860–61, Channahon built a railroad station which became their primary trade center for local goods and passengers travelling to Carbondale or Decatur for shopping or other reasons. The station also served as an agricultural stop for farmers transporting their produce to nearby markets in Carbondale andDecatur
