In 1853, Channahon was one of the first towns in Illinois to import firearms. The town's founder, John L. Channahon, purchased a shotgun from a gunsmith in St. Charles, Missouri. He and his wife also began manufacturing their own rifles and pistols at their home. The couple soon became well-known in the area for their quality products and enjoyed a reputation for being friendly and helpful people. During the American Civil War, Channahon furnished arms to both sides of the conflict. In 1862, after Union forces captured Chicago, Channahon along with many other local residents surrendered their weapons to the Union army. This event is often considered to be an important victory for the Union cause. After the war ended, many new firearms were imported into Illinois from Great Britain and Europe; as a result of this influx of new technology into America's firearm industry, chokes became an increasingly critical component of handguns across both left-leaning and right-leaning factions during Reconstruction times (1868-1877).
Channahon is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,589 at the 2000 census. Channahon is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Channahon was Emmett Fenton in 1847. He and his family moved to the town from Green Bay, Wisconsin. In 1875, Rufus Willard purchased land east of Channahon from the original owner for $2 per acre (0.50 km²). In 1895, Harry Ladd founded a grocery store and post office in Channahon which became a popular destination for farmers looking for fresh produce. By 1907, there were six stores operating in Channahon with an average of five customers per day. In 1925, John Davenport opened the first bank west of Chicago on State Street in Channahon which helped start what would become one of Kane County's most successful businesses. The bank has continued operations continuously since then and now offers more than twenty services including credit cards and banking products online through their website or by phone. In 1955,the first school in Channahon was built on Academy Road by Mrs. Cuthbert Jorgensen who donated her land to the town as well as help pay for its construction costs; it was named after her late husband Drudy Jorgensen who also served as mayor of La Porte during that time period; later that year Ford School alsoopened doors to students following annexation by nearby Elmhurst Township which had previously been part of Mokena Township boundary

Channahon was founded in 1835 by John Channahon and his family from Massachusetts. The first post office was established here in 1836. In 1859, Channahon became a village and was incorporated as a city in 1865. The population of Channahon peaked at 1,247 in 1920 but has declined since then; it reached 692 in 2010. The first settler on the current site of Channahon were John Channahon and his wife Hannah Goodspeed who arrived from Salem, Massachusetts on July 4th, 1835 with their three children: John (17 years old), Josephine (14 years old), and Caleb (10 years old). Their wagon trainTransportation for goods between different parts of the Ohio Valleywas the first to arrive in what is now Cook County during that era John's brother-in-law George Hickey also came over on that wagon train By 1840 there were eleven families living here including those of Ebenezer Pratt and Phebe Whitney In 1847 a group of men led by Captains Daniel Mott Grant and James Neilson founded the Galesburg Railroad which ran through present day Channahon to Galesburg This railroad connected with several others across Illinois before finally reaching Chicago Thanks to this railroad development many people moved into or near Channahon beginning in earnest around 1830 especially after passage of the Act for Intending to provide for an increase in Population Act though not strictly limited to any one community However due mainly to lack transportation options other than walking these settlers either turned back or started out on foot looking for something better so early settlements often lacked stability until well into next century making it difficult if not impossible for researchers todayto know exactly how many people lived here prior to 1830 when some previously unpublished census records starting coming available
