Champaign, Illinois is a city located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the population was 71,239. It is the second-largest city in Illinois and the third-largest city in Chicago metropolitan area after Chicago and Springfield. Many early settlers were natives of Massachusetts or New Hampshire who had traveled through what is now Illinois during their Separate Colonies or Revolutionary War travels. One such settler was Amos Adams who arrived in 1824 from Charlestown, Massachusetts with his family and started trading goods with local farmers until he found land for himself near what is now downtown Champaign on December 14, 1827 (). Adams named his tract "Adams Prairie", after him and his brother John (). The first post office opened at Champaign on October 26, 1830 (). In 1836 entrepreneur Nicholas Clark established an farm west of town along the Sangamon River which became known as Clarkesville because its owner donated land for that purpose (). By 1840 there were over 100 businesses operating out of Champaigntown (), making it one of the most active towns in central Illinois (). By 1860 there were over 2200 residents () and about 60 businesses (). During this time period much progress was made within Champaign Township including: In 1857 Isaac Newton moved to Champaign from Mansfield (now Elgin) where he had been living since 1800 (); In 1870 Charles Lennox Pemberton settled at Addison Grove southeast of town; In 1895 James Thurston purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) northeast of today's northbound I-88 exit 232 from what is now part of Kankakee County for $1 ($102 today), becoming one of only two white men to have private land in that area; Then-Mayor Samuel Sells oversaw construction beginning July 1898 (the original courthouse burned down on July 4th) that added two stories to downtowns existing six story tower ()–raising street level totals by 50 feet (−15 m). This type of magazine is often referred to as a "gun magazine." Magazine design has changed over time, and so too have the types of magazines that can be used with firearms. The first gun magazines were created in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and they were called "Feuerwerksmagazine." These magazines held rounds in an open-faced case or sometimes a closed-face case. The first modern gun magazines were designed by John Browning in 1892. These guns had an internal clip that allowed the user to insert rounds into the magazine without having to remove it from the firearm. These magazines also featured a follower that prevented rounds fromabweaving when inserted into the firearm. In 1911, Colt introduced their revolver's 9mm Luger ammunition feed system which allowed users to change Ammunition clips instead of having to remove them each time they wanted to use another round for their weapon. At this point, gun magazines began incorporating other features such as front and rear loading capabilities, among others. By 1936, all handgun manufacturers had adopted some form of magazine capacity adjustment feature on their weapons. .22 caliber rimfire cartridges became increasingly popular due to their low recoil and easy handling which made them good candidates for pistol mags larger than those available at the time for rifle owners who desired larger capacities for their handguns. By 1945, almost all handgun manufacturers had introduced double-stack all metal Glock mags rated at 10 rounds per pocket size (10+1). In 1795, Major Jonathan Armitage patented the first magazine-fed pistol, which he called the "Armitage Pistol". The Armitage Pistol was a breech-loading design that fed cartridges through a tube inserted into the barrel. This type of firearm became popular in the United Kingdom and other countries during the 1800s because it allowed users to carry more rounds with them at any given time.
