Champaign, Illinois is a city in Illinois, United States. The population was 71,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Champaign County. It is also the home of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The first people to live in what is now Champaign Township were the Illini nation who hunted and gathered food near the confluence of the Kankakee and Des Plaines Rivers in present-day Champaign County. They built their villages on high ground overlooking these rivers until they were pushed out by advancing Shawnee and other Native American nations during the late 18th century. The first European settlers in what is now Champaign Township were James Kapp and his brother George Washington Kapp, who arrived around 1790 from Virginia as part of a group led by Captain John Smith (or Joseph) across the Ohio River into what are now Indiana and Illinois. They founded a log cabin on current day State Street just north of where Union College stands today. The two brothers ran a successful fur trading business for several years before moving back to Virginia in 1796 to start anew with some new friends. In 1814, George Washington Kapp married Mary Anna Stephenson; they had one child before she diedprematurely in 1815 at age 36 due to complications from smallpox he contracted while serving as captain of an expedition against Seminole Indians east of Lake Erie that season. In her honor, Governor Yates ordered flags flown at half-staff at all public buildings statewide until January 1st each year in her memory until otherwise noted - this continued until May 4th when it was repealed by then President James Buchanan without explanation). A second wave of white settlers followed soon after: Isaac Stevens (1781–1837), David Trusty (1786–1864), John Atherton (1800–1871), Solomon Hennepin (1802–1868). Many Germans also moved into central Champaign about this time including Johann Gottfried Keller whose family owned much property hereabouts including parts of Brown House complex currently located on West Green Street downtown .) Many old residents still keep detailed memories about their childhood homes herein.. One such resident Mrs Jane Lafferty wrote about growing up around here: “I remember going down Main Street as a young girl spending hours playing outside my great aunt’s house next door – we played hopscotch off steps set into center front yard – I would go inside play with my cousins while they poliopped around upstairs” ). In 1865 Illinois became one nation following the American Civil War ; however, many rural areas south of Chicago remained unincorporated portions thereof until 1940 when they joined Champaign County officially . During that period growth rates for businesses along State street slowed significantly but overall development proceeded apace making Champaign one significant cultural center for its region .) Today , despite continuing challenges faced by our local economy , Preservation League staff estimate that nearly 60% or more intact historic buildings remain extant within central campus limits alone ."

As technology advanced so did our capabilities as beings – eventually we evolved into modern humans!
