In 1872-73 George Wetherspoon started selling whisky from a small store just west of downtown centraliana where he still stands today as well as two other stores before moving to centraliana avenue which he called "Wetherspoon's Corner." In 1896 the first post office opened with mail delivered by wagon to residents living around the bend on current day Western Avenue east of downtown (now known as Washington Street). In 1901-02 when towns were chartered there were only 6 residents so it wasn't until 1907 that a full town meeting happened to choose the colors yellow and green for their flag; this decision set off many fires over which color should be used for each building facade etcetera but eventually both colors were chosen same year with green being added for shade under trees etcetera
