Cary, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern corner of Illinois. The population was 10,474 at the 2010 census. Cary's history can be traced back to 1795 when it was settled by James Caldwell and John White. In 1818, during the War of 1812, Cary was part of the United States Army and garrisoned Fort Dearborn. In 1825, it became a village and in 1829 it became a town. The original courthouse in Cary remained until 1906 when it was replaced by the current one. The first school in Cary was built on what is now First Street in 1827. It soon proved to be inadequate and closed its doors for good in 1830. A new school opened on South Third Street in 1835 and continued to operate until 1907. During that time, there were also two churches located within easy walking distance of each other - First Baptist Church on East Main Street and Methodist Episcopal Church on West Second Street. There were several business operations that thrived during Cary's early years including carpentry, shoemaking, blacksmithing and wagon trading services among others. However, these businesses all eventually failed due to lack of competition or simple economics reasons such as market saturation at that time. One significant event which took place during this time period occurred when General Anthony Wayne attacked Native American villages near Carbondale on October 16th, 1800 using a force of 3200 soldiers backed by artillery from Fort Dearborn undercommandant Captain Abraham Lincoln Richardson II alias 'Hagerman'. This attack led to the Creek Nation being forced all the way down into Alabama where they conditionally ceded their land plus all their wealth to Great Britain as part of Treaty #4 following the capture of Atlanta (August 25th-September 2nd 1775). A little over a year later (January 8th 1800), General Wayne destroyed many Indian villages near Carbondale again with another large force only this time numbering 1400 men under Captains Isaac Brockman & Jonathan Teague along with 5 cannonsade boats manned by 100 men each commanded by Lieutenants Ebenezer Dickinson & Samuel Chase after raiding balls off some houses belonging to Chief Pontotoc who had been so successful against Wayne 2 years earlier! It should also be noted that General Wayne burned 6 miles long straight through Mobile County! In short; this attack caused an unintended economic loss for America but resulted ultimately in Creek Nation ceding more than $2 million dollars worth of land southward providing new opportunities for agriculture development! In order for Cary not just existing but thriving into its 21st century day however there have been many initiatives undertaken throughout its history which have helped make it feel like home: 1) The creation of The James Caldwell Foundation which provides scholarships annually for students at Trinity College - now known as George Washington University; 2) establishment of The Cary Historical Society which preserves local artifacts and publishes historical documents; 3) installation within city limits (citizen initiated ordinance) Of A City Park System—now known as Mayor Donnelle's Park—which includes baseball fields/softball diamonds/football fields/wrestling ring/pavilion/golf course/, four playgrounds/, three basketball courts/, two swimming pools/one spa/, five tennis courts/. 4) Construction Of An Art Gallery And Museum Dedicated To James Caldwell Whichopened In 2006; 5) Establishment Of A Park District WithinCity Limits That Includes More Than 1200 acres Of Recreational Area comprising 12 sport venues/, 15 Lakota Cultural Center/(Cary Sioux Tribe), six community centers(three high schools/two postsecondary institutions), seven cultural attractions(theatre performances Bosworth Theatre Company presents plays every summerAnd Chicago Shakespeare Festival presents plays twice yearly)), six parks(), One Community Enterprise Zone()and One Business Zone().

The first settler in Cary was John Hargrave. In 1840, the town had a population of twenty-one people and a small store. By 1850, Cary had a population of seventy-six inhabitants and two stores. By 1860, Cary had a population of one hundred seventeen people and four stores. In 1868, the railroad arrived in Cary and it began to grow quickly. The town reached its peak during the 1870s when it had a population of three hundred fifty-eight people and twelve stores. However, by 1880 Cary's population had decreased to ninety-four people and two stores.
