Carpenter's Village had a Baptist church which burned down on December 25, 1915; a Methodist church which burned down on December 5, 1916; and an Italianate styled grocery store which burned down on January 20, 1917. The last resident of Carpenter's Village died on November 30th, 2009 at the age of 93 years old.

As commerce flourished within the community, various tradesmen formed partnerships that became known as “ gangs” or “ associations .” These groups helped keep alive local businesses while working together towards common goals such as providing goods or services for others or making money through trade. Throughout its history, Carpentersville has been home to some of the most talented local citizens. Many of these individuals were born into successful families who were able to contribute to society through their work ethic and dedication to their communities. Some notable residents include: Heman Goudreau (founder of Goudreau’s grocery store), George Wessel (presidential candidate on behalf of Abraham Lincoln), John Ahern (founder of Ahern Automotive), Harry Sizemore (founder of Sears & Roebuck department store), Otto Kappeler (builder/developer of Kappeler Homes), Emil Jorgensen (founder/director/owner of Jorgensen Jewelry Company) and countless others! The area now known as Carpenterville was first inhabited by the Menominee. The first European to explore and live in this area was Capt. John Smith, who explored the Illinois River in 1795. The first settlers on this land were the Van Buren family, who arrived in 1808. In 1830, General James K. Polk passed through this area on his way to the White House and burned all of the homes in Carpenterville.
