Carpentersville, Illinois was founded in 1851 by John H. Carpenter and his family. The town became a manufacturing center for optical products thanks to the success of their glass fibre product line. In 1902, Carpentersville merged with neighboring towns, including Belvidere and Carbondale, forming the Carbondale-Belvidere Township government. The following year, the township adopted a new name - Carbondale-Hinsdale Township - to reflect its growing population and geographic proximity to other larger cities. Carbondale-Hinsdale Township remained an independent municipality until 1959 when it merged with DuPage County as part of the suburban growth boom in Illinois.
Carpentersville, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,739 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Carpentersville was founded in 1857 by James J. Carpenters and his brother-in-law George Buttrick as a small community on the banks of the Des Plaines River. Carpentersville was one of many communities along the south side of Chicago that were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1871. Most of these towns were rebuilt and grew rapidly during Reconstruction; however, Carpentersville declined after 1865 due to lack of industry and social opportunity. In 1872, Carpenter moved his family to Macon Township in McLean County because he saw opportunities there for agriculture and carpentry (he had been a carpenter since 1849). There he started two businesses - "The Carpenter's Shop" and "The Blacksmith Shop". The first building still stands today on Main Street in Carpentersville - it served as both a store and workshop until 1926 when it was replaced by an annex which now houses the town's library. In 1898, William Hesseltine donated land to establish Wabash Park which encompasses much of present-day Carpentersville; this donation helped spur development in nearby Riverside Heights and other areas around Wabash Park over the next few years. In 1933, Mayor John Puskar dedicated what is now called Puskar Plaza – then known as Market Square – as part of his citywide celebration marking 250 years since Chicago’s founding. The plaza has become home to a variety of local businesses including several restaurants and three retail stores within close proximity to each other – evidence that while downtown may have changed hands multiple times since 1795, workaday life on Michigan Avenue has not stopped changing at all!

Carpentersville was first settled in 1818 by John and Anna Carpenter. The town was named after the trade of carpentry, which at that time was an important industry in the area. The Carpenter family initially worked in a variety of trades including but not limited to farming, mining, and manufacturing. In 1868, the family moved to what is now known as Mt. Vernon and started a grocery store there. Over the years, they also operated two other businesses- one specializing in hay and straw products and the other selling general merchandise. In 1907, the Carpentersville post office was established and remained in operation until it closed in 1977. During its tenure, it served as a stop on the Northern Illinois Railroad. After closure, most of the business assets were sold off and eventually abandoned. However, one building still stands- this is currently used as a daycare center. It is worth noting that even though Carpentersville has had many changes over its history, its core values have stayed unchanged- namely customer service and community cooperationism
