Carpentersville is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Carpentersville was founded in 1855 as a station on the Underground Railroad. The first settlers in Carpentersville were German immigrants who arrived in 1847. They built a log cabin and started a small farming operation. In 1855, they moved to what is now the Village of Carpentersville and purchased land from the Mora brothers. They began construction on their first home, which they named "Hanna". In 1861, John Haggerty became the first white person to live in Carpentersville when he immigrated from Ireland with his family. He worked for two years as a carpenter for local farmers before moving toTuscarawas Junction where he opened his own store. A few years later he married Emma Egan and together they started an agricultural grocery business that continued until 1920. In 1921, they bought land east of town and began building their current house which still stands today - Haggerty House #2A . An important factor in Carpentersville's early growth was its location on the Underground Railroad; fugitive slaves arriving here often sought shelter at nearby farms or homes before being smuggled out to freedom on trains heading northward through Illinois into Canada. This site also played an important role in developing local trade and commerce; many small businesses sprang up around this time due to access to farmland and transportation resources close by

Carpentersville, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in McLean County and the second-most populous municipality in Cook County after Chicago. The original inhabitants of Carpentersville were Quakers who settled there in 1814. The first post office opened in 1815. The name comes from a settlement on the banks of the Sangamon River by John Carpenter and his family. Carpenter's father had built a sawmill here in 1784. In 1830, George Stephenson constructed a line of steamboats that connected Carpentersville with other communities on the Sangamon River system. Carpentersville became an important transportation center for many years because it was close to both Cairo and Springfield, two major cities on the then-new Illinois Central Railroad network. In 1879, three men— WILLIAM LEE CARPENTER (1848-1927), JOSEPH NORMAN CARPENTER (1856-1932) and GEORGE HENRY WOODS (1859-1945)—founded what would become one of America's largest carpet manufacturers and retailers. carpets have been used as furniture covering every room of every home since their invention more than 250 years ago . Mills #2 & 3 were established about 1840 by Joseph Niles & Sons; these mills produced high quality woolen carpets which became known throughout America for their smoothness and durability over time . Mills #1 closed down circa 1950 but remnants remain today as part of Hess Corporation’s Floor Covering business
