There, they continued their activities until World War II when they relocated again to an old Masonic Lodge on County Road 729 east of town. Carpentersville, Illinois is a small town located in the east side of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,209 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in Carpentersville were James and Elizabeth Carpenter who arrived in 1837. In 1871, John and Maudie Frisch established a grocery store and bakery there. The Frischs also raised chickens and pigs on their farm until they sold it in 1938 to Tom and Belle Smith. From then on, until 1976 when it merged with neighboring Villa Park to form Carpentersville-Villa Park Township, Carpentersville was an independent municipality. In 1916 the village board purchased land from JF Condon for $7000 to build a waterworks station and reservoir which supplied water to all of Villa Park Township including Carpentersville. That same year the village board decided that it would be more efficient to have one central government for all of Cook County so that services like fire protection, paving streets, etc., could be provided by a single organization instead of several separate entities. On July 1st 1916 Village Board voted 3-2 to merge with neighboring Villa Park Township (now suburban Chicago) into one unitary government known as Cook County Community Services Corporation effective September 1st 1916 under the leadership of its first president John Denton Jr.). Carpenter's Vineyards has been located in Carpentersville since 1907 when George Latta bought some vines from his father-in-law Moses Levy after he had discovered them growing on his family's rural property west of Carbondale IL while vacationing in Europe aboard the SS "Olympic". When World War I began Latta immediately set about planting 400 acres (1 hectare) of new vinesyard soil at his home called HIllshire Estates where we now operate today’s facility; our wines are aging in oak barrels which date back to 1915! Today over 25 years later we produce 6 different styles including Riesling Blanc de Blanc; Zinfandel; Chardonnay; Cabernet Sauvignon; Syrah; Petit Verdot & Ruffleseed sparkling wine
The first Carpentersville post office was established in 1868, and the current building was built in 1917. The town of Carpentersville was named for John L. Carpenter, a captain in the Union Army who served during the American Civil War. Carpenter's Field, located near present-day Carpentersville, was where Ulysses S. Grantbattlefield is now preserved as a national historic site
