Carpentersville is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,588 at the 2010 census. It is the home of Northwestern University's Carpentersville campus. The first firearms were made in Carpentersville by two men who were carpenters. One of these rifles was called the "Pioneer Rifle" and it was made in 1836 by Nicholas bowyer and his son Daniel. In 1853, John Fenton built the first gunsmith shop in Carpentersville and started making firearms from wood. He also became one of the first to offer pistols for sale through mail order. In 1868, Charles Hennepin opened a sawmill located in what is now known as North Park Avenue close to where Interstate 80 now meets Ulysses S Grant Boulevard. This mill produced shotguns, handguns, rifle barrels and other tools used by carpenters and other construction workers throughout America during this time period. Wm Mathers began manufacturing firearms here in 1899 using an existing sawmill on the parkway between North Park Avenue and I-80 (now Dempster Road). He produced rifles and shotguns until his death in 1978. At this point carbide cutting technology had become available which allowed him to produce very high quality firearms with less rejects than previous manufacturers. In 1961 Samuel Colt introduced their Model 1903 revolver into America here in Carpentersville when he founded Colt Firearms Corporation here on Dempster Road (now part of Northwestern University's Cook Campus). The Model 1903 revolver has been considered one of the most iconic handguns ever created and continues to be popular today across multiple cultures around the world!

The early settlers didn't have much to do except farm and trade with other villages so they didn't need to build anything special because they had access to natural resources such as timber and water. However, over time some of them started developing businesses such as carpentry, leatherworking, foundry work, etcetera so they needed to start buildings that would support those businesses. This led to the construction of churches, towns halls (including one built specifically for carpentry), banks (which later became Macy's Department stores), factories (including two oil refineries), hospitals (including one operated by Christ Hospital which still exists today), homes for judges and many more structures that dot Carpentersville today!
