The city was founded in 1834 by carpenters who needed to find a place to work during the Panic of 1837. In 1950, however, bullets started being banned in most U.S. states because of their potential impact on human health and safety. Despite this ban, bullet production continued until the early 1970s when it finally ended due to economic reasons. Carpentersville has seen many changes over its history; some of which are quite remarkable given that bullet manufacturing was relatively new at the time. For example, one of Carpentersville’s first churches was built in 1835 and remains standing today – despite being hit by more bullets than any other building in town! After a few years, Amos passed away also, leaving the business to his son-in-law Harry Weisiger. Weisiger ran it for about 30 years before he sold it to Maurice Kappelman in 1957. Kappelman ran it for about 10 more years before he sold it to Gerson Sacks in 1974. Sacks closed the business in 1979 and it was auctioned off to David Auerbach of Carpentersville in 1980. Auerbach reopened the store as a furniture store in 1984 and has been running it ever since.

There are no schools within Carpenterstown and most residents attend school in nearby communities such as Barrington Hills, Oak Lawn, and Lansing Park. Carpentersville was once an agricultural center with corn, cottonseed, beans, potatoes and other crops being grown. Since the late 19th century however, carpentry has become the dominant industry in the town with many businesses operating out of local churches or carpentry shops that have been around for centuries. Carpentersville is a small town in the southern Illinois area of the United States. The population was 7,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of Champaign County and is located about 38 miles (61 km) south-southwest of Springfield, Illinois. The community was founded by German immigrants in 1847 as Schroeder's Bluff. The name came from Andreas Schroeder, who had arrived in America in 1838 as part of Friedrich Wilhelm Böttger's group of Protestant refugees from Prussia. Carpentersville became a village on December 9, 1853, when it incorporated as a town under the name of "Carpentersville." In 1870, John W. Eaton was elected mayor; he would serve until his death in 1890. In 1907, the village burned down and again on October 17th due to an accidental fire that started while firefighters were fighting a separate fire nearby. The event garnered national attention and led to various plans to rebuild Carpentersville including one proposal for a stadium for football purposes which would have been built adjacent to Main Street but never accomplished due to financial difficulties unique to that era. In 1909–10, Carpentersville erected its first schoolhouse which still stands today within the current building complex housing both public and private schools as well as apartments and office space used by businesses and residents alike since then. On February 14th 1925 (the date also marked National School Week), Carpentersville celebrated its centennial with an elaborate street parade lasting two hours starting off at Market Square preceded by speeches by Mayor Eaton and other distinguished citizens followed by dinner at Masonic Hall hosted by President Calvin Coolidge

In 1865, the city of Carbondale was founded nearby and Carpenterville lost its status as a municipal town. The city of Carbondale renamed itself Carbondale-Kankakee in 1967 and the town of Carpenterville became part of Carbondale again.
