In 1912 when American Glass Works merged with Bethlehem Steel Corporation, CarollStream became part of Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s new manufacturing district in Mclean County (later Cook County). According to the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Carol Stream was 97% African American; 1% White; 0% Native American; 2% Asian; 2% Hispanic or Latino; and 1% two or more races. At that time only 6 people were living below poverty line: 3% African Americans (of all races), 22% low-income households ($10–14k), 31% families with children under 18 (under age 18 poverty rate: 24%), 33%. Of those living below poverty line at any given point in time during the decade 2008-2010: 4/30/2008 - 9/3/2009 - 11/6/2009 - 12/9/2009 - 13/2/2010 = 36%.
