After years of being used as a farmhouse by various farmers and others until her conversion into living quarters for Mayor George Pullman during 1898–99, Mrs. Burch's home remains one of the most notable examples remaining from that time period inside City limits today! She served as mayor from 1899 to 1901 under current Mayor John Stroger before he took office in 1902; she died two years later at age 82 after serving for many years!). Her home still stands today just north of Northwest Side Drive on North Avenue within City limits! In 1907 construction began on Northwestern State Normal School (later Northwestern University), which would eventually become one of America's leading colleges; today's McCormick College also traces its origins to this early school building project! The first students came to Northwestern Normal School in September 1907 from all over northeastern Illinois...thus beginning what would be one long history with Northwestern State Normal School! When World War I began on April 6th 1914 there were already more than 900 students enrolled at Northwestern State Normal School...nine months later classes had startedVM Today's McCormick College trace their beginnings back even further - they were founded in 1916 by Rev Dr Samuel J Vorhees who had been badly injured while serving with Company HUSKY during World War I! His efforts led to establishmentofthe college’s predecessor: Western Reserve Collegiate Institute where undergraduate courses were offered until 1943…andthen Stritch’s Female Seminary followed before finally becoming McCormick College proper!

The first settlement in what is now Carol Stream was made by John Stephenson and his family on a site known today as Stephenson Park. The town of Stephenson was located east of present day Carol Stream on the banks of the Kankakee River. In 1836, Rufus King founded the town of Romeoville to be near Niles College, which had just begun operations. In 1840, Romeoville became part of Champaign County when it was created from parts of Cook County. A post office called Romeoville was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it were discontinued in 1906. On January 1, 1870,Champaign County merged with Kane County to form the new state of Illinois. When Illinois became a state, there were no cities within its borders and only villages (towns) with more than 1000 residents existed statewide. As a result, two small towns – Romanoville and Bloomington – were ceded to Champaign County for lack of space within Kane County alone. Bloomington finally attained city status on December 15th 1973 when it joined Champaign City Council over objections from its neighbouring village - much like Romeoville had done centuries earlier!
