The history of the Ar15 upper receiver began in 1978 with the design and development of a new rifle that would become known as the AR-15. The original AR-15 was designed by Eugene Stoner and John M. Sullivan, both graduate students at Illinois State University. The AR-15 was first manufactured in 1980. It was not until 1984 that the Colt Manufacturing Company produced an edition of the AR-15 known as the 7mm Remington Magnum. In 1997, Winchester Corporation purchased Colt’s share of Armalite Firearms Corporation which led to production of the Ruger Mini 14 rifle utilizing ArmaLite components within Winchester firearms manufacturing plants throughout North America. In 2003, Ruger pistols were introduced using Armscor components within their factories in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Sterling Heights, Michigan; these rifles are now being resold under various brand names including Bushmaster and SIG Sauer amongst others. In late 2006 it was announced that FN Herstal USA had entered into a partnership with American Outdoor Brands (AOBC) whereby all future production for both types of firearms will be done through AOBC’s facilities located in Omaha, Nebraska where FN also manufactures handguns under contract to American Outdoor Brands. This change from FN to American Outdoor Brands is significant because it represents a shift in focus away from traditional gun manufacturing towards products such as ammunition and hunting supplies that can be sold online or at physical stores across America. As recently as early 2007 there were reports that ArmaLite Components Inc., manufacturer of components for select civilian rifles used by police forces around the world would be selling its line of firearms direct to consumers without any middlemen such as GlockUSA or Springfield Armory Inc.? However this deal fell apart when American Outdoor Brand decided not to move forward with their plans for an online store operated by FNHerstalUSA? As a result many questions remain about exactly what happened betweenArmaLite Components Inc.? and GlockUSA? What becameof Armalite Firearms Corporation? And most importantly why did AOBC decide not to pursue any further sales opportunities for Armalite Components Inc.?

However since then the growth has slowed significantly and today only 2,521 people live in Carol Stream according to the 2000 census
