The Carbondale, Illinois Gun Magazines Company was founded in 1903 by E.W. Robbins and his brother-in-law John Daugherty. The company produced a wide variety of magazines for handguns and rifles, including both hunting and sporting magazines. In 1915, the company merged with the Chicago Gun Magazines Company to form the Carbondale Rifle & Pistol Company. The Carbondale gun mags story began in the early 1920s when a Mr. and Mrs. Fenton opened a small shop on West Third Street in Carbondale, Illinois. They were the first to sell firearms in town and they soon became known as the GUNSMITHERS of Carbondale. In 1924, they moved to their present location on South Park Drive and continue to sell firearms until their closure in 1976. The Fentons are buried at Westminster Cemetery in Carbondale.
Carbondale, Illinois is a city inIllinois, United States. The population was 56,594 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Kane County and the second-largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area. Carbondale contains several institutions of higher learning including Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUCC), Illiniwek University and Parkland College. The nearby Monee River forms a border between Carbondale and Aurora. The first people to live here were the Potawatomi Indians who populated what is now Carbondale from about 1810 to 1830. They left after treaties were made with white settlers that allowed them to keep their land but required them to convert to Christianity and adopt new ways of life. When white settlers arrived, they found these Indians living in villages near Daviess County Airport on what is now State Street east of I-65. White traders brought maize, beans, knives, firearms and other items back with them when they came overland from Mexico in 1836 as part of General George Armstrong Custer's forces during his Indian War expedition against the Sioux tribe led by Chief Little Bighorn . In 1839–40 Methodist missionaries began preaching among the Potawatomi Indians at Paynes Point on Lake Michigan east of Carbondale. By 1840 there were about 150 Methodist ministers living among these natives and some became very successful in converting them to Christianity. In 1848 local farmers elected James Buchanan as Mayor; he soon afterward founded SIUCC ( Southern Illinois University) which today has more than 27,000 students studying abroad or USMLEs (Doctorates). The early years of SIUCC were difficult because it was an all-male school with only one faculty member teaching medical sciences/surgery/clinical medicine without any training whatsoever in those areas! But thanks to Drs Charles Goodyear and John Llewellyn Fields who joined SIUCC faculty during this time frame things changed for good when they developed a curriculum that combined medical science courses with American history and culture classes taught by American professors from other universities while also providing opportunities for student involvement on campus through committees responsible for such things as carpentering exercises modeled after “the model plantation” where slaves worked their way up within society through self-improvement skills acquired during their natural growth process; playing baseball games against free black players on Stinson Field; writing grants proposals for research projects; creating publications; working together as a team to organize annual meetings etc., etc.–and so much more! Today SIUCC has more than 27500 students studying abroad or USMLEs! Aurora had its start around 1840 when two men named David Brewster bought 2 lots along Aurora Avenue just north of present day DeKalb Avenue from John Toombs & family then built house #5 on lot #2 around 1850 according to current records kept by Cook County Recorder’s Office brewster moved his family here sometime after 1850 probably cuz there wasn’t much else out there
