Canton, Illinois is a city in the northwestern corner of the United States. It was formed from parts of Decatur and Jacksonville in 1837. The population was 22,914 at the 2010 census. In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked Canton as the "Best Place to Live". The area that would become Canton was first inhabited by Algonquian Indians. A trading post and village were established on the Mattaochee River in 1797 by French traders and missionaries under Father Jacques Marquette. The village was abandoned in 1800 after a hostile encounter with local Teo tribe members led by Chief Sachem Pacheco. In 1802, an act of Congress created Cass County, Illinois as part of what is now Indiana Territory. This gave Canton its name: "Canton" meaning "settlement by Cass." On March 15, 1837, the village became a town when it was incorporated as such by state legislators under the general law of Illinois. This event marked an important turning point for Canton because it helped establish its role as an agricultural center within Cook County; prior to this period much of cantonal industry took place outside of town due to distance and other difficulties encountered during early settler development. A post office called Canton had been established in 1836 but closed operations on October 1st, 1840 due to high postage rates charged by mail service at that time. The first postmaster General for Cook County was George Biddle who served from November 10th, 1840 until his death on December 2nd 1840 after which David Silliman took over for him (Silliman also served as Postmaster General for DuPage County). After David Silliman's death on January 1st 1851 another new Postmaster General appeared named James Fenton who held office from January 5th through September 3rd 1850 before his retirement effective October 3rd following which again Mr Fenton's successor Samuel Hetherington held office until his own death on February 20th 1862 just two weeks shy of his seventy-fourth birthday! During these short terms there were only three different officials serving concurrently at one time! On July 11th 1870 Jno Wahlstrom took over duties from Samuel Hetherington when he retired effective September 3RD following which Alfred Sloan became Acting Postmaster General until May 9th 1870 when Wahlstrom returned back into duty effective June 30th following which John Madden replaced him (Madden also served as Acting Postmaster General for Kane County). Finally during this time John Madden left office due to health concerns leaving William Ryder Kappes acting responsible until finally Harry Price succeeded him on November 8TH 1870 after Price's untimely death just one month shy of his seventieth birthday! With Harry Price taking over responsibility things began to change with more regularity now than ever before with six different executives serving concurrently during any given week! During Price's tenure things got even more active with five separate occasions where offices were vacant for more than four months consecutively!! Once again we can see how a busy administrator could cause some problems while still meeting deadlines without fail!!!

Early rifles were equipped with simple, ungainly optical instruments that could only be used in single-point mode or when looking down the barrel. This limited their use to close range targets, and many pioneers believed that practical rifle sights should be able to accommodate a wider variety of hunting targets. In 1836, Swiss inventor Julius Cockerill designed an improved rifle scope that could be used in three different magnification levels for better target acquisition. The first rifles using this scope were built by Captain John A. Macdonald of the Canadian army in 1837. This type of Rifle Scope was also adopted by American forces during the Mexican-American War in 1846-48. A few years later, Rifle Scopes was developed by French inventor Charles Babbage and named after him – Baton de la Rive Gauche ( Baton from Left Hand Side). This new design featured an all metal construction and a telescope tube made from polished aluminum alloy for superior clarity and brightness at all ranges. It became popular with French riflemen during World War I because it allowed them to engage more than one target at a time without having to adjustment each one individually. The original Rifle Scope was eventually replaced by the modern day Mounted Sight system on most modern rifles which allow you to adjust your aiming point independently instead of just relying on the sighting system alone

Canton, Illinois is the largest city in Kane County and the county seat of Cook County. The population was 1,847,545 as of the 2010 census. The greater Canton area covers about 95 square miles (250 square kilometers). It is located on the eastern edge of Chicago and immediately to the north of Midway Airport. The first Europeans to visit what is now Canton were French traders who explored and trade with Native Americans in this region during the 17th century. In 1693, John Clute built a trading post at what is now the intersection of State Street and Erie Avenue in what is now Canton. A year later, he erected a log cabin here which still stands today. In 1724, construction began on a permanent fortification called Fort George atwhat is now Elmira Road and State Street in what is now Canton. The fort served as an outpost for traders entering into Lake Michigan from Canada. It was abandoned by 1800 because of its vulnerability to attack by upstart American towns such as Rochester and Buffalo. In 1809, General James Kieft commissioned surveyor Jacob Riis to explore new areas within Kane County for sale to settlers. Riis discovered that there were large areas that could be developed for agriculture if cleared land could be obtained cheaply enough; this led him to commission two other surveyors—John Pemberton and De Witt Clinton—to design plans for canton’s future growth. The first phase of development involved building roads and bridges linking villages within canton with farms beyond it; these structures helped facilitate easy access by farmers to goods available in larger cities such as Chicago or Detroit but also created opportunities for trade with those regions while still providing security against raiding parties from Native American nations east of Lake Michigan caused by fur-trapping expeditions sponsored by English colonists looking for Alaska resources. Canton was founded in 1837 by the Potawatomi tribe of Native Americans. The town was named after the Ohio River and its fertile land. It grew quickly, becoming a center for trade and commerce. In 1865, the United States acquired the area from Great Britain as part of the Treaty of Fort Laramie. The treaty ended a long war between America and Great Britain over control of what is now Kansas and Nebraska.
