The first Calumet City Shooting Target Holder was opened in 1934. It was located on the southeast corner of Wabash and State streets. The first targets were made from a piece of lumber that was cut from a tree at the local sawmill.
Calumet City is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Calumet City is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by the cities of South Holland to the south, West Glenview to the west, and Belmont to the north. The first settler in Calumet City was James Wetherill who arrived on October 7, 1836. He named his land "Calumet." A post office was established at Calumet on November 9, 1838 and served until it closed on December 15, 1840. In 1846 John Fenton built a gristmill on property now known as Fenton Street east of present day Randolph Road. In 1848 Isaac Guilford purchased some land west of Fenton Street from James Wetherill and erected a large frame building which became known as Guilford's Mill in 1851. The mill continued production until 1903 when it stopped due to lack of money. In 1850 Amos Hodge settled near what is now Randolph Road and began business as an agricultural store selling goods such as flour, butter, eggs and other produce from his farmstead east of Randolph Road. By 1860 Amos Hodge had also constructed a large sawmill adjacent to his store that continues operation today producing lumber for buildings and other objects up to .50 inch thickness (1/8 inch depth). Hodge also operated a grocery store from about 1865 until about 1870 which attracted customers from neighboring towns including South Holland and West Glenview which were then within Chicago's limits at that time. In 1872 Hodge sold his land comprising most of what are now Randolph Road and Madison Avenue (now Prairie View Drive) to Lorenzo Sibley who laid out much of modern-day Calumet City grid plan with streets running north-south while swampy areas lay east-west across much of its surface including parts still occupied by residences or businesses today including Sibley's Store fronting current State Route 59 opposite where two small shopping centers currently stand: one housing Salvation Army thrift stores used by residents during hard times while another composed mostly of new construction housing various types commercial tenants; both were developed by developer Jesse Kiss in collaboration with city officials at their request following enactment of legislation providing for drastically increased tax revenues generated thereby cashless development within city limits throughout Chicagoland resulting in virtually no loss whatsoever to taxpayers despite attendant social & economic turmoil during latter years

Calumet City is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Calumet City was George Stephenson, who arrived in 1827. Stephenson's family were pioneers and built a log cabin on what would later become the south side of town. The community's first post office was established in 1829 and its first store was opened in 1830. By 1833, the village had a school and six businesses including a millinery, grocery store, carpenter shop and blacksmith shop. In 1835-36, Stephenson donated land for a public square which became known as Stephenson Park. In 1840s-1850s much of what is now north side of town was developed as farmland with several small settlements scattered around it including: Horseshoe Bend (now an industrial park), Dutchtown (now part of Elmhurst), Pleasant Prairie (now an inner city neighborhood) and Sunrise (now part of Cicero). In 1850s local citizens voted to incorporate as a village under the name of "Calumet." The new village had three stores: Alder & Woodman Merchants Co., Harper Bros./Fulton Blacksmiths & Forge Co., and Smith Bros./Cooking Store No 2. The Post Office moved to its current location on Dearborn Street in 1857 but closed in 1959 due to lack of customers; it reopened after being bought by USPS headquarters management as an annex for their mailroom before being shut down again in 1990 due to budget cuts following the privatization of USPS by then-Secretary Eric Shinseki From 1860 until 1964 Village Hall served as both municipal building and Calumet City High School where students from surrounding villages took classes together during lunchtime before going off to their own schools each day In 1865 George Stephenson married Eliza Cushman from Waukegan; they had two children:George Jr., born 1865, died young;and Annie Lavinia born 1870-71 died 1963) . Mrs Stephenson also founded one or two other businesses including: Alder Steele Clothing Depot & Sales CO.; Harper Bros./Gardners Grocery CO.; Cooking Store No 1 North Side Road; Telephone Exchange CO.; jr Tradesmith Shop On Dearborn Street ; Stevenson Park gift shop open 1861-1963 In 1886 John Paulding purchased large parcel east side Of Dearborn St From his father Ascalon Paulding Sr He Started To Plant Cotton And Made Seed For Pembina Mfg Works On This Property When Company Closed Too Soon After Purchase CALUMET CITY HIGH SCHOOL Was Opened In 1946 By Rev J H Morrison With The help Of His Father Ascalon Paulding Sr Now It Is A National Historic Site Known As "Missouri Central" calumetcityilinoishistoricalsociety
The town of Calumet City was founded in 1836 by the brothers Elijah and John C. Caldwell. The first settlers were men from New England who came to the area looking for a new home. The Caldwells started a lumber business and soon developed a large agricultural landholdings. They also became involved in politics, serving as Mayor from 1851 to 1861 and as member of the Illinois General Assembly from 1867 to 1870. In 1876, the Caldwells donated their land extending into present-day Chicago for use as a city park.
