The first firearms were muzzleloaders in Calumet City, Illinois. This town was founded in 1834 by John Stephenson and his brother-in-law David Dudley. The two men started a gunsmithing business and soon began selling firearms to the local farmers, ranchers, and hunters. The pistols they created were used for hunting such as bear, deer, turkey, and duck. In 1861, the United States became embroiled in the American Civil War. To ensure that all citizens had access to arms, Congress passed the National Defense Act which granted government permission to purchase guns from certain manufacturers. In order to qualify for this exemption, businesses must have been open at least six months per year during wartime. As a result of this amendment, Calumet City became one of the few towns in America with legal firearm sales beyond military purposes. Throughout the years, various handguns have been designed or patented by different inventors within Calumet City’s borders. One of these weapons is the 1911 pistol which has become deeply associated with this city throughout its history. Designed by George Smith of Springfield Armory fame (later renamed Colt), this handgun was initially marketed as an “export” weapon designed primarily for countries such as Spain and Argentina but eventually became popular domestically too. It features a Valenciasteel frame with a hardwood grip and is equipped with a 7mm barrel bored out to .45 ACP caliber for greater accuracy when fired offhand or from closer distances. This type of trigger is often more sensitive than shrouded triggers, meaning that it requires more force for a shot to detonate. Shredded or standard triggers are typically used with revolvers where gunfire must be immediately stopped in order to reload or chamber another round; shrouded triggers don't allow this type of stoppage. Hammer-fired triggers require you to cock the hammer in order to fire a round, then pull back on the trigger in order to fire it. This type of trigger is often more difficult for beginners to learn but also offers greater accuracy when firing rounds offhand because it doesn't rely on feedback from the hand as with othertrigger types

This device was later called the Browning Rifle and is considered one of the first handguns to be mass-produced. In 1857, Springfield Armory began production of pistols using this design. Calumet City, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,526 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1847 by pioneers John and Anna Calumet and their sons John A. and James W. Calumet. The first post office in Calumet City opened on October 15, 1847; it closed on July 24, 1865 due to the American Civil War. The first settler in what is now Calumet City was John A. Calumet who arrived there from Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1846 with his family. He named his new community after his father-in-law's home state of New York (now Albany). In 1870s when railroad construction began through Cook County ernest Hutton donated land along the tracks for a town site that would be called "Hutton Park". On November 3rd 1870 the plat for "Hutton Park" was approved by a meeting of trustees and allowed to be built without any tax money being raised as required by law ernest Hutton had boughthe land from another settler Isaac Bronson for $5 per acre which made him one of the richest men in Cook County at that time However within days of filing the plat with county officials he sold all or part of his holdings to other investors totaling over $130,000 including contributions from several former presidents Ulysses S Grant and Grover Cleveland

Calumet City is located in Calumet County, Illinois and was founded on the bluffs of the Sangamon River in 1847. The city was named for General James K. Calumet, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. The first settler in Calumet City was John H. Geary, who built a log cabin on the east side of the Sangamon River in 1847. In 1853, Major George Stephenson established a post office at what is now Calumet City. The first store in town was opened by Reuben Burdick in 1854. By 1860, there were 9 businesses operating in Calumet City. In 1861, Jno Crayton erected a large plantation house on land that later became part of downtown Calumet City. When the Illinois Central Railroad arrived to provide transportation for settlers living near Chicago, Jno Crayton decided to move his family to Chicago and begin anew at his new home on East 54th Street. However, due to financial problems he ran into after relocating his family, he never completed construction of his new home and it still stands today as one of several remaining examples of early 20th century architecture within downtown CalumETCITY! In 1865-1866, residents of Chicago petitionsed Congress for annexation to become a full state of Illinois; however this petition did not come through until 1870 when Congress passed an act annexing allergancies (land adjacent to or lying within any municipal limits) situated eastward within Cook County including those within present dayCalUMET CITY! With this addition to Illinois’s mainland population came increased business opportunities for entrepreneurs such as JNO CRAYTON who relocated again just northward onto property that would later comprise much OF Downtown CALUMET CITY today! On July 1st 1872 Mayor John Ahern inaugurated “The Park” which included portions of what are now State St., Fremont Ave., Wabash Ave., E Lake Dr., N Michigan Rd., S Dearborn St., W Washington St…..all inside then current boundaries OF Downtown CALUMET CITY TODAY! This park/land acquisition followed another key event that year when Mayor Ahern successfully lobbied for passage of an act creating The Village (later renamed “Downtown”) Plan which called for aspects such as public works projects etc….to be placed under jurisdiction Of city officials with ultimate responsibility f OR ALL THAT WAS TO BE CONSTRUCTED IN THE AREA NOW ACCORDINGLY LOCATED INSIDE DOWNTOWN CALUMET CITY!!!!!!!!! During World War II various munitions plants were constructed throughout Northern IL & adjacent states resulting in many jobs being created FOR OUR PEOPLE IN CALUMET CITY! One plant closed down & produced products that ended up lining our local waterways but also left residential areas nearby WITH HIGH levels OF Toxins!!! Today we continue TO FOCUS ON PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITY FROM THESE types Of Accidents THROUGHOUT THIS PLACE AGAIN BY INCREASING ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND SIGNIFICANT AMENDMENTS TO THE PHASE 3 ZONING RESTRICTIONS DOCUMENTATION……………………………………….
The Calumet City community first developed on the banks of the Chicago River in 1836. The town was founded by John H. Sager and his family, who were merchants and furriers. In 1837, the Pritzker family moved to Calumet City from Decatur, Illinois. The Pritzkers were influential figures in early Illinois history and are considered pioneers in the state's agricultural industry. In 1871, Calumet City became a city when it was incorporated as a result of an act of the state legislature. The city's growth continued throughout the late 19th century and into the 20th century; during that time, it grew rapidly as a commercial center for eastern Cook County. In 1940, Calumet City became one of seven cities in Cook County to be merged into the greater Chicago area under then-city manager Edward J. Byrne; this merger made Calumet City one of downtown Chicago's most important civic centers.
