It has been said that the first shooting lessons were given to children in Calumet City, Illinois by its pioneer settlers. The Gun Slings Museum, located within the city limits of Chicago, preserves and exhibits firearms from throughout Illinois’ history. The museum’s collection began with a single shotgun purchased by Mr. and Mrs. John Ladd from the Smith & Wesson company in 1876. The rifle that was donated to the museum by General George Armstrong Custer is also on display at the museum. Gun slings have been an integral part of many cultures throughout history and are stillused today in many parts of the world. In Illinois, they are often used as part of traditional celebrations such as Fourth of July fireworks displays or town fairs.

This event is generally considered the first public shooting competition in Illinois.
Calumet City is a small town located in Calumet County, Illinois. The population was 1,033 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Cook and Kane Counties. The town was founded in 1846 by Captain John C. Calumet and his family. The first post office in Calumet City was established in 1847. The name of the town derived from the river that passed through it, the Kankakee River. At its peak, Calumet City had a population of 2,500 people and had two newspapers: The Republican and Chicago Tribune. In 1958, Calumet City merged with other small towns to form Village I-Calumet which has since shrunk to a population of about 350 people. The water tower which stands today on Main Street near where it crossed the Kankakee River is one of only few remaining relics from when Calumet City was one of the most important transportation hubs in central Illinois during its heyday as an agricultural center. Bicycles were popularized here as early as 1876 when bicycles were introduced into this area by James Sennett who operated a bicycle store in downtown Chicago Heights along Wabash Avenue just east of State Street (now Congress Parkway). From there he exported bicycles to various locations around America including Milwaukee, St Louis and Omaha before selling them back home again via rail or boat across Lake Michigan to customers on both sides of the Mississippi River; thus founding what would become known as "Chicago's Bicycle Supermarket". In 1932 Drury News publisher George Hennepin organized a quartette - future Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Ed Brondel - including Al Jolson, Harry Shearer and Art Carney for an advertising campaign against alcoholism called "Drink America Dry" which ran throughout Chicagoland until 1936 when alcohol prohibition began nationwide. After years of failed attempts by local businesses to attract drinkers with such aggressive advertising campaigns Hennepin resigned from his position atop Hearst Magazines' Chicago publishing division after twenty years service in 1942 amidst allegations he masterminded widespread antitrust violations during those years while still employed by Hearst Corporation's Chicago divisions responsible for printing all cover stories for all seventy-two editions ( sixteen times weekly) published daily within that division). For many years following his departure there seemed little hope that old world big business could be regenerated followed instead by another era characterized by shrinking markets due largely to advances made within consumer durables industry – new products like air conditioners and cassette tapes displacing traditional favorites like books – making way for yet another period characterized increasingly ultimately not only BY CONSUMER DESIGN BUT ALSO BY CORPORATE INDEPENDENCE AND THE MARKETS RESPONSibility FOR THEIR OWN LIVES … A TIME OF GREAT TRANSFORMATION but also great CHANGE?

The popularity of shotguns led to the development of rifle slings as well, which could be easily attached onto rifles by means of straps passing throughholes located at either end of the barrel- This gave shooters more range when firing from multiple locations simultaneously and also allowed for easier transport due to its lightweight nature. Rifle slings remain popular to this day because they allow shooters great accuracy when moving theirweapon around - even when shots need to be fired from various angles!

The land that would become Calumet City was first settled by farmers in 1847. In 1871, the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad moved its tracks through the area, which made it easier to get goods and people to market. This caused businesses and homes to rise up around the railroad depot and on West Main Street. soon enough, Calumet City had a formal name - "Caldwell" after Jno Caldwell, one of the first settlers in what would become Calumet City. In 1907, members of the United States Congress approved plans for a new city government in Kane County with boundaries that would include much of what is now Calumet City. On March 3rd of that year, citizens voted overwhelmingly in favor of incorporation as a city! The city's first mayor was Fenton Crouch (1907-1912). Throughout its history, Calumet City has been an important center for trade and industry in Kane County. Today many businesses still operate within downtownCalumetCity including Sears Roebuck & Co., KFC/Domino's Pizza/, Intel Corporation and Pepsi products are some of their popular brands exported from this town
The city of Calumet City was founded by the American Fur Company in 1835. The company built a mill and town on the site, and began to grow. The city rose to prominence as a fur- Trading center, and later became a major manufacturing center for agricultural goods. In the late 19th century, the city experienced growth in its population as a result of oil exploration and production in nearby Illinois. The industry led to increased housing development around the calumet area, which also made Calumet City one of the most rapidly growing cities in America during that time.
