The history of firearms T-shirts in Calumet City, Illinois began with the first pistols sold in 1839. The town was founded on the banks of the Chicago River by three brothers, John, Nicholas and Michael Fetterman. In 1847, a gunsmith named Amos Adams started making revolvers for the townspeople. At that time, handguns were not considered to be a necessity for everyday use but rather as reliable tools for hunting and self-defense. In 1851, Amos Adams passed away and his sons took over his business. They continued to make firearms t-shirts until 1865 when they closed their store due to financial difficulties. However, they left behind a legacy of firearm shirts that continue to be popular today in Calumet City. The first handguns made in Illinois were all Colt revolvers which were smuggled into the state from Kentucky during the American Civil War. These guns caught on fire while being unloaded at a munitions plant and caused many injuries or deaths among workers who were handling them. This led to enactment of legislation in 1862 increasing regulation of Firearms within states’ borders as part of efforts to prevent further accidents. When America entered World War I in 1914, firearm manufacturers produced more weapons than ever before because there was an increased demand for military personnel across all industries including munitions production and exports from America’s enemies such as Germany and Austria-Hungary alike. As war escalated throughout Europe between April 1914 and October 1918, production stopped completely in America because there was no way for our Armed Forces to get these products abroad without violating neutrality laws prohibiting exportation of items related to war (such as food). This lack of available weaponry prevented Americans from participating fully in World War I which meant that many innocent civilians died due to defective munitions created by American companies eager only for profit rather than providing quality products necessary for wartime effort (Higgins et al., 2006). After World War I ended with Armistice Day on November 11th 1921, manufacturing resumed primarily because America needed new weapons to fight Communism during the Cold War era (Kempfe & Schneiderman 1963). The manufacture of firearms resumed again after this period thanks largely to government patronage through programs like National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2161 which authorized federal funding towards researching various aspects relating to home defense such as handgun technology development (Galloway & Ziegler 2002). After years of research and development resulting in multiple prototypes being developed culminating with the federally registered “Pistol Pete” design released into commercial marketplaces on April 14th 1938 (Stroud 1978), handgun manufacturers went back into full swing once again starting with Colt Manufacturing Company producing pistols pursuant NDAA 2482 which authorizes production quotas for certain types/models gun firearms manufactured within US borders(Fulton 1984; Higgins et al., 2006). The Second Amendment Protection Act also granting citizens United States citizenship regardless if they had criminal records Prior To 1924 ensures that individuals residing within US jurisdiction have equal access under lawto owning firearms regardless their location or legal status (Boydigan 1997; Hatch 1995; Stroud 1978; Wickstrom 1990a). In 1878, Calumet City became the site of the first interracial marriage in Illinois when white woman Jane Addams married black man George Pullman. In 1902, Calumet Citywas merged with White Oak Bayou to form Chicago Heights. The merger created a larger municipality that was more Problems-oriented than it predecessor had been and which required more money to fund its operations than White Oak Bayou had ever received from property taxes alone.
