Calumet City is a small city located in the Kane County area of Illinois. The population was 7,853 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicagoland metropolitan area. It has since lost much its economic importance due to suburbanization and reductions in manufacturing jobs throughout Kane County; however there are still some remnants of its downtown district that include several buildings dating back to the early 1800s that are now used for housing or office space by local businesses. Today Calumet City remains an important cultural center for Kane County with many events being hosted here including Arts Alive! which features local artists every month from April through October; Polishfest which takes place annually around Easter time; Kiwanis Club's annual golf tournament on July 4th called The Big Ochocinco Classic; summertime concerts at nearby Millennium Park headlined by heavy metal legends GNR (guitarist Robert Trucks Band) as well as classical ensembles (such asworks by Beethoven and Bach)
