The Cahokia Gun Case Company was founded in 1892 by John A. Cahokia and his brother Edward C. Cahokia. The company made firearms cases for a wide variety of products, including cannons, rifles, shotguns, pistols and ammunition. The company was headquartered in the city of Cahokia until 1899 when it moved to a new facility on the north side of town. In 1915, the company merged with Wm. Hagedorn & Sons gun case manufactory to become Wm. Hagedorn & Co., Ltd.. The company continued manufacturing firearms cases until World War II when production stopped due to the war effort. The company resumed production after the war but lost its market share to more modern companies. In 1973, the company merged with Western Firearms Corporation to form Western Firearms Corp., Inc.. Western Firearms Corp., Inc.'s product line included handguns and rifle cases. After years of decline,Western Firearms Corp., Inc.'s fortunes changed in the late 1990s when it began producing high-quality 9mm handgun cases under the name Millennium Arms Corporation. Cahokia is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. Cahokia is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Cahokia has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 4,000 years and is one of the oldest towns in Illinois. The first Europeans to visit Cahokia were French traders in 1679. In 1795, General Anthony Wayne's army destroyed the village after its inhabitants refused to allegiance to America. The site of Cahokia was finally exploration by Captain John Fitch during 1802-3 and he named it for his native village of Kaskaskia on the Mississippi River. In 1834, Richard Mound Builders discovered an abandoned city blocks east of downtown on high ground called Mound Village which they called "the most perfect example of a mound built without any assistance from man." In 1837–38 Major George Armstrong Custer led an expedition into what is now Kane County in search of Chief Wabash's tribe who had earlier attacked his unit near Fort Dearborn on November 15th1815 during their annual winter encampment about 12 miles (19 km) north-northwest of where Cahokia now stands. After reaching Wabash's camp on February 26th1837 they killed all but four members of his group including two chiefs and took their horses and other belongings back to Fort Dearborn where they burned them alive as hallucinations caused by alcohol induced fever may have contributed to their deaths according to some sources...This event remains one of history’s most mysterious episodes phenomenonally accounting for more Ulysses S Grant death than any other individual...Custer’s ultimate success or failure at this point still remains a mystery with many Historians believing that he either did not find enough Indian camps or that he encountered superior hostile forces while traveling through what are now rural Kane County which would explain why almost no mention has been made about him since then...In reality however historians know that there was another American Expedition led by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Ewing Beardmore which reached Wabash’s camp within days after Custer's return fromhis supposed attack on October 20th1837 and although ethnohistoric evidence suggests that Beardmore skirmished with Indians near present day Mount Carmel outside White Bluff early August 1838 before finally withdrawing due lack thereof resources Contemporary accounts suggest that substantial amounts Canadian beef being shipped downriver by wagon train likely played a role in provokingWabash into attacking American forces so even if Custer did not encounter hostile natives he may still be responsible for fatalities among otherwise friendly local Sioux when raiding parties ventured too close
