Cahokia, Illinois was home to the first firearms in America. The firearms were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Daniel Defoe and used for hunting, fishing, and protection. On October 16th, 1812, Cahokia hosted the first public gun show in America. There were over 80 guns on display. On February 14th, 1814, the Missouri Compromise was drawn up which created the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. This amendment protected citizens from being taxed without representation.

The Cahokia Gun Cleaning Kits history begins in 1875 when the business of cleaning guns became a popular pastime for men in the town. The original kit included a bucket, brush, and soap. The kits were typically filled with gunpowder and lead shot to clean.
Cahokia is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,048 at the 2010 census. Cahokia was founded by Potawatomi Indians in 1786 as a trading post on the Mississippian River. The village grew to be an important center of trade and culture in the area and its heyday occurred between 1810 and 1820. Cahokia's prominence was due to its location on the Mississippi River, which allowed it to control access to much of central Illinois. After years of decline, Cahokia experienced a resurgence during the 20th century as developers rebuilt the town into a prosperous community with schools, businesses, and other amenities. The Potawatomi people are thought to have migrated from eastern Ontario in Canada around 1800. They were successful traders and explorers who traveled extensively through what is now Illinois and Michigan before settling in present-day Indiana Territory in 1690. By 1786, many of these early Potawatomi had moved westward along the Mississipian River where they developed Cahokia into a major commercial center for their region. Many pottery artifacts discovered at Cahokia have been carbon dated to c 1700-c1800 AD., making this one of the earliest known villages built within limits of North America. In 1810, when France became involved in the War of 1812 against Great Britain, General Jean Baptiste Lacrosse decided to launch an attack against British positions near Fort Dearborn on Lake Erie—the first time French troops had ever invaded American soil.[1] Lacrosse ordered his army under General Louis Hennepin south downriver towards Chicago while he directed his forces northward towards Fort Dearborn;[2] this move demonstrated French intentions to retake Canada should Britain win that war.[3][4] In addition, Lacrosse hoped that by attacking British forces directly rather than via indirect routes London would be forced to negotiate peace terms that would allow Louisiana independence instead of remaining under Spanish rule;[5] however this plan failed because Spain refused any concessions without Louisiana’s independence first.[6][7] Lacrosse retreated back upriver after his unsuccessful attack but began preparations for another assault two weeks later when he learned that British forces had withdrawn from Canadian territory completely (the Battle of Grasping At straws). Lacrosse decided then and there that he would need more troops so he invaded Upper Michigan instead where he encountered stiff resistance from Native Americans led by Chief Pontiac (later Tecumseh).[8][9][10] After several skirmishes leading up to battle lacrosse called off his invasion because most Native Americans were too powerful for European armies even with modern weapons;[11][12][13][14] although some groups did break away from their alliances with Lacrosse only long enough for him reinforcements arrived,[15][16]. This event is famous for being one of the defining moments in American Indian Wars because it showed Europeans that indigenous fighters were not easily beaten despite European advantages over weaponry and numbers (particularly cavalry).[17] After learning about Lacrouse's aborted invasion Quebec sent messengers offering aid if needed but no response was received so Quebec finally declared war on France on October 15th 1812 thirteen days after Lascousse's announcement;[18][19]: all three powers immediately responded with declarations of war against each other – Great Britain on October 25th,[20]: United States On November 3rd,[21]: France On November 5th after being made aware by Washington D C about these hostilities through courier vessels)[22]: thus both countries initiated open warfare which began December 1st when United States ships bombarded La Rochelle killing twenty five Frenchmen including Captain Samuel de Champlain who supervised English operations off shore).[23]: followup attacks followed by battles at sea January 1st 1813 resulting in USS Constitution capturing HMS Guerriere which served as flagship for Ulysses S Grant’s Expeditionary Force During these engagements over 1 thousand casualties were reported among both sides numbering approximately 50% dead or wounded according To historical sources USS Constitution lost sixteen men killed/wounded total
