Burr Ridge is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. Burr Ridge is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the eastern edge of Kane County and lies adjacent to Joliet Township on its north side and North Aurora Township on its east side. Burr Ridge was founded in 1854 by Isham Burr as a station on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. In 1875, Burr Ridge became one of twenty townships in Kane County. The township seat remained at Burr Ridge until 1957 when it moved to North Aurora Township. The original Burrridge post office operated from 1855-1876 and was renamed North Aurora after annexation by neighboring Aurora Township. The first store in Burr Ridge opened in 1865 and remained open until 1959. At that time,churches began to be built along with homes starting around 1870-71 as people started moving out of Chicago for economic reasons (due to political changes brought about by Andrew Johnson's presidency).
