The community has two churches—one Baptist and one Catholic—and several businesses including Weisman's Hardware, Miller's Department Store, Lumber Yard & Millinery Shop (now Quaker Oats), and Cooks Gourmet Pizza Place (now Papa John's). The community experienced rapid growth after World War II when thousands of Americans moved into Burr Ridge from all over America seeking opportunities to live close to major cities such as Chicago or New York City. This growth led to increased traffic congestion and social tensions that continue today although there have been recent efforts to revive some aspects of this community such as rebuilding mainstreet

Burr Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Burr Ridge was founded in 1871 by two brothers, Addison and Cyrus Burr. It was named for Addison Burr, who had been a captain in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The first house on what is now Burr Ridge Avenue was built by Addison Burr in 1871. The house still stands and is used as a museum today. In 1902, Cyrus Burr donated land to make up what is now the east side of Burr Ridge Avenue. This land included a large lot that currently houses the community's library and many other businesses and residences. In 1916, John Pritzker purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of railways north of where present-day Burr Ridge Road meets Interstate 90 from Addison and Cyrus Burr for $5,000 (). Pritzker used this railway to develop his new city of Chicago - specifically its south Side - which he called "Burr Ridge". After World War I ended with America's entry into World War II, Pritzker resumed development on his city but died before it could be completed; however, some elements survive to this day such as Pritzker Park on South Side Drive near 54th Street). As early as 1907 there were plans for developing an enclave within Dearborn Heights called "Burridge", just west of Dearborn Heights Boulevard on Lake Shore Drive (now Worth Boulevard). Development began in earnest only after World War II when residents discovered that they could commute quickly to downtown Chicago without having to leave their homes
