Burr Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the North Side of the city of Chicago. The population was 3,048 at the 2010 census. Burr Ridge is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin (CNE) Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin (CNPE) area of the larger Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to live in Burr Ridge were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1834. They built a small log cabin on what is now Roger's Road. In 1835, John Fritsche moved to Burr Ridge and started a grocery store with his brother Conrad Fritsche. The two brothers founded Burr Ridge Township on December 6, 1835. In 1856, Edwin Drake bought land north of Burr Ridge and began setting up a mill boomtown called Rockford Center which became one of the largest cities in Illinois after it was incorporated as Rockford on August 11, 1860. After Drake died in 1865, his son John Hargrave took over control of Rockford Center and started making torpedoes for the Union Navy during World War I. In 1925, Congress passed an act authorizing local governments to erect public works projects such as roads and bridges without prior approval from Washington D.C., which then delegated authority for these types of projects to state governments through Acts 256 and 268 respectively; both acts repealed sections 254a & 254b of the Public Works Code that had been passed just four years earlier pursuant to legislation known as "The Rapallo Plan". As burr ridge grew more prosperous following World War II with its increasing production capacity related to defense industries like missile manufacturing or shipbuilding (the latter giving rise to its nickname "Shipport City"), many families decided they would rather live close enough so they could visit their homes regularly while still having some semblance of privacy; this led to gangs being formed around schools proximate by neighborhoods such as Normandy Park or Lincolnwood Shopping Centre which served as transportation hubs for these parents out running neighborhood watch patrols6 due to fear that if caught outside their home they might spend time behind bars rather than enjoying their own children's developmentally-appropriate activities7 Although today few residents openly indulge this lifestyle because it can be damaging financially (vehicles are often repossessed when routine criminal activity results), there are no effective laws against Gangsta culture within any given community8 Consequently living conditions have generally improved somewhat since early 1990s9 although crime rates remain high10 compared with nearby suburbs
