The first firearms appeared in what is now Burbank, Illinois, on November 5th, 1837. The gunsmith and rifle manufacturer George Smith began manufacturing rifles and pistols in this small community about 25 miles north of Chicago. A few years later, he started selling the products direct to consumers through a store he operated in an old schoolhouse. By the turn of the century, techniques for fabricating firearms had progressed sufficiently that Smith & Wesson was able to produce high-quality rifles and pistols at their new factory on South State Street. In 1911, they produced their first revolver. The company prospered until 1922 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated. This left Burbank without a major firearms manufacturer until 1934 when Browning Manufacturing Corporation (now part of Remington) became a subsidiary of Winchester Incorporated.

Burbank is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 51,715 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Illinois after Chicago. The Burbank metropolitan area covers an area of 71 square miles (182 km²). The first settlers were Swedish immigrants who arrived in 1827 and named their new community "Burbank". In 1847, John P. Shipherd bought land near what is now downtown Burbank and started to build a rancho style house. By 1870, he had developed into a wealthy man and decided to move his cattle operation to what is now downtown Burbank. He named his new town after himself – "Burbank", as it was then located about 12 miles away from where he lived on theranch property. In 1898, the burro race track opened to provide tourist attractions for visitors to the nearby small towns of Burr Ridge and Palos Hills while also hosting events such as horse races and auto races that would bring people into downtown Burbank during these times of economic boom. In 1944, one of Hollywood's largest movie studios was built just north of downtown Burbank by producer Harry Cohn on land that had once been part of John P Shipherd's rancho estate. The name Hollywood came from this location when the studio became known for its production of films in that region. Over time other large businesses have moved or been acquired within Downtown Burbank; many still occupy their original buildings today including Sears Tower (1987), KFC (1999), Honda Center (2003), Staples Center (2007), Apple Store (2011) and BMO Harris Bradley Center (2015).

Burbank, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 509 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Burbank-Wauconda Combined Statistical Area has a population of 2,551,827 as of 2019. The first people to live in what is now Burbank were the Menominee Indians who lived on the north side of the Chicago River from about 1770 to 1810. They were followed by European settlers such as Peter Kroeber and George Stephenson in 1834 and 1835, respectively. In 1857, James Wirtz bought land along with other farmers in what is now Burbank for $2 per acre (0.50 km²). He named the land Wirtz Township after himself and his brother-in-law Amos Warren Wirtz who had helped him buy it. The first post office in Burbank was established on November 3rd, 1870, known as "Erie". By 1880, burbot had become an important commercial center due to its location 5 miles east of downtown Chicago on Lake Michigan Boulevard and its easy access to railroad transportation which made it an important stop for goods moving westward across the Great Lakes region. Railroads brought new life to burbot with their arrival of passenger trains starting up around 1900; this also contributed to its growth into one of Chicagoland's most heavily populated cities during this time period. In 1905 or 1906 Jerry Byrne started operating a small grocery store at 4th and Dearborn Streets called Jerry Byrne's Grocery until it burned down in 1907; this event led tothe development of nearbyDearborn Park where today's retail shopping district exists
